Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Can't order online for store pickup at Livingston NJ Sears. Is that location closing?

Is the Sears located in Livingston NJ closing? I can't have the order picked up at the Livingston NJ location any longer. Is there something wrong with the Sears software or are they planning to close?

It's working now. I can now order from Livingston NJ Sears. I guess they shut it off for about a week or maybe it was a software glitch.

Thanks!

Are Sears's systems so sh--ty it takes a programmer to turn one on and off as @qrl suggests?

Like the poster below me said, web orders can be shut on and off by corporate or by DMs request. One other reason of being shut off would be if they said “no” to a lot of orders due to on hand counts being off or not getting them quick enough. This would have to happen regurlarly. Its seen like a punishment to the store. The store loses all of those potetial sales and management gets scolded.

Store can be turned on and off by corporate for store pick up if the At the DMs request. It happened to my store twice. Once we had an in store system issue so the had to turn orders off for us, the second time we had over 300 in store and ship out orders and more coming in and we fell so far behind they turned us off for 2 days to catch up. It could be something as simple as corporate temporary Turning it off for one of the above reasons

I can't pickup ANY item at Sears Livingston NJ. Try it yourself: go to Sears.com and put in an item you know they have (like perfume or jeans or shoes) and you will NOT be able to pick it up at Livingston (zipcode 07039), because it's not listed in the store pickup list (even when you do "change store").

The same thing happened when Kmart was closing. They removed that specific Kmart store from the list to pickup items.

This is the first indication that the Sears in Livingstone might be closing (unless a software programmer screwed up and removed Livingston from store pickup choice instead of some other store location.

edit: If this was something you were in fact able to order but it was canceled on you then it may have been a miscount in the on-hand stock OR it could be that it's missing and can't be found, though still in the system. My store has had that happen where we supposedly have one left of something, but it's no where to be found and hasn't been seen for a while, and chances are high that one was shoplifted at some point.

Only one I know of that is closing in Jersey is the one in Toms River (who our liquidator is also working with) and looks to be the only NJ location on the list. (Granted there were some additional stores mentioned on here that were not on the list, but I don't recall any being from NJ.)

Thing is about pickup (and true for many stores not just Sears), items ordered generally come from the stores themselves. If it isn't available for pickup at that location it could simply be that they do not have it. I've often tried to help customers in-store order things that turn out that they just aren't available with us or anywhere locally, and frequently those have been clearance or discontinued items we no longer carry. At best, they could choose to have it shipped to their home if some other store in the country has it.
