Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Field Care Managers- Is that transitioning to contracted staff vs employees?

Does anyone have any idea/clue/hint or maybe even first-hand knowledge as to whether Humana will drive this new focus on in-home care management with network (contracted) care managers or Humana employees?

In case you don’t know Humana has not focused on the number of visits for quite some time. The focus is on quality of work and has been for the past 6-12 months. Based on results from internal chart audits and information shared from these most recently it is very clear the overall quality of the network falls way below the paid associates. Part of the reason is the network is allowed to employ LPNs to do these visits. I have seen the quality of their careplans and they s---. They are been tracking this for a year now. So expect some changes coming with a new audit tool that is focused on these new initiatives of quality.

In grad school I did a project on contracted workers vs direct hires. Direct hires over a 5 year span were less expensive than contracted workers. Hiring outside contractors to save money is a misnomer. It saves money when trying to determine staffing patterns and structure.

That is not correct . Network is cheaper and easier to change Direction and program. No severance and their 60 day notice . That is why so many companies outsource

In the long run, network is not cheaper. People don't understand that fact.

I am a network care manager with a private company and we were all surprised to hear about the layoffs last year. Now that LT4 is dissolving and all in-home members will be LT2 soon, we too are facing downsizing of our staff. However, this is directly related to the LT4 conversion by HAH. Otherwise, our work has been strong and remains strong for our staff, especially with Transitions. My first instinct is Humana IS wanting to outsource to contract providers more. I’m sure it’s cheaper! Also, when you pay your staff salary but they don’t have the productivity it makes it hard to sustain. I only say that because we have some network managers doing 30+visits per week. I was lucky to get in 20 when I was a HAH associate back in 2015. I hate to say it but since we were salary at HAH, there was no real incentive to produce. When your income is directly related to how hard you work then you see results. Of course, I realize quantity is not always better but from a business perspective, if you can do more and still have evidence of good outcomes then that model of care is working. Network management is the way to go!
