Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

My experience

I currently work for State Farm corporate. Whenever State Farm closes a location they give their employees over a year notice they offer relo to full time employees whose job is being moved to a different site and for those who decided not to move they bring in other companies in the area and do a job fair to help those employees find another job. State Farm might not have the highest pay scale for our industry but they do a pretty good job taking care of their employees.

They did take care of their employees for a long time, but that era is in the past. The layoffs took out primarily employees 45 years old and older. Most were not retirement eligible. If you are a corporate office employee you know nothing of what has happened in the ranks of the customer facing employees. Claims has been gutted.

Don’t forget those of us older employees targeted when we returned from FMLA or sick leave who were always rated 2 and or 3; and older employees in auto claims they have given unreasonable workloads to in order to set up for termination. Imagine going to work today and they suddenly call you in and say you are terminated. No discussion. No severance. This has been going on for last few years. Sorry for those still in it. Be prepared if you get email or even one 1 on review seemingly out of the blue. Good luck.

Our QTD (3/31/18) was announced on 10/5/17. I'm an RE4 and posted for several RA3 hub positions (agency marketing & others) and received immediate rejection emails... but I got a 3/2 On my EPR again. Nice bonus check today.. I'm gonna miss those.

This isn't true. I was in HR and laid off. GIVEN 3 MONTHS NOTICE and no relo ordered to majority of FT employees. They let us go and hired externally in the desired locations.

I have talked to a lot of people that I work with or around. I am not in claims or underwriting. Most people do not believe this is happening. They believe that State Farm always does the right thing and those that want to stay will have an opportunity to do something else. You can tell them what is happening but they will not believe it until it happens to them. Especially on the sales side! And, they think if it happens it will be years from now.

Hey OP: If you're going to make a completely brain-dead post, don't put it on your facebook where people can identify you.

We are getting 10 months notice in Tacoma and no relocation assistance. Express is going to Bloomington and Auto ILR to Phoenix with some positions from both in Dupont. If you work in one department and your spouse works in the other as is my situation; you are limited to applying for the limited positions in Dupont. They fully acknowledge that "not all positions will be replaced" and that people will be out of work. State Farm no longer takes care of employees.

I'm pretty sure this OP is similar to the one who admonished us for sharing SF info on the internet: ie this is not a real person. It's just here to get a reaction.

In case this is a real person: Get a clue. This ain't your father's State Farm anymore.

OP you are "Corporate & Clueless" and obviously drinking the Kool Aid. I don't know who you are or who you are talking to, but things have changed. Just last week several Departments all over the Country were given QTD dates in July 2018 out of the blue ! These same people already went through Migration to the NEW STATE less than 4 years ago, competed for jobs & assumed their jobs were secure & would not be part of a Transition Plan. Another kick in the pants is that the Severance Package being offered now is SIGNIFICANTLY less than what was offered to previous employees. Tacoma Office is closing & if they care to post for jobs in another location RELO is NOT being offered to everyone. Many people in Tacoma relocated there for their jobs not that long ago !!!! They have figured out now that NO RELOCATION OFFERED is an easy way to weed people out. You better pay attention to how this company is treating people CURRENTLY. Don't allow what you THINK you know about how they are handling long term employees to give you a sense of security that doesn't exist. Ive been with this company for over 25 years & have had to come to reality about how little SF values it's employees, the most valuable resource a company has.

And that right there is what has always been our problem: Corporate doesn't know anything about the real world outside of the safe corporate bubble. Everything you said is false. People are being reassigned out of roles they're good in for sh--ty roles (think Injury) that no one wants. The company is hemorrhaging people. Our company seems to be the only one in the world who doesn't get the beauty of remote or teleworkers. Tipsord is running us into the ground. Our customer service stinks and claim reps don't have the knowledge they used to. They're just moving people around like chess pieces with no thought of whether it'll work or how it affects policyholders or employees. We've always been a little sad when it came to the treatment of our employees. Nearly 30 years and now all of a sudden I'll be gone without even a glance. All the years I spent on the road for Catastrophe delivering the promise. No one cares.

The silly thing is the offices people transferred from are still open.... and with a small fraction of what was there 2013. One would think the easiest first expense cut would be to close these offices NOW. You can close Tacoma in one year, but Petaluma.... Tulsa Another 2 years or so? Why are these offices still opened? Tulsa remnants are not mobile and just waiting for severance.....shut it down!

When State Farm originally made announcements in 2013 about the new direction of the company, those of us initially impacted were given years notice. We were told in 2013 our office wasn't a named facility and was finally given a QTD last year of Nov 2018. That was then and this is now. The days of a year or more advanced notice is long over. I hate to sound pessimistic, but anybody that is a current employee who hasn't gotten a QTD date yet, I would be nervous if I was you. It's only a matter of time before you receive that fateful email. Being in a hub, corporate or a proximity worker is no longer safe. Please keep your resumes updated and begin networking outside the company. It can be a scary ordeal to be a 20+ year employee and State Farm is all you know. Just know there is a good life and in most cases an even better life after State Farm. Good luck to you all.

We really do have silos.

  1. There is no advance notice of job cuts

  2. Decisions have been made before communicating.

  3. You will be on a group call, told decisions made, and instructed to wait for your call about ur fate.

They are looking at salary dollars. Does not matter that you have earned your CPCU, CFHC, CPCU or law degree. Knowledge and experience is not considered or factored.

Bottom line, cheap labor and the belief SCPS and technology that evaluates liability, injuries will be the bomb.

Sure wish I had your experience then. No Relo for me. Minimal severance. After 20 years of sh--ty pay. So happy it's over and I can move on.

State Farm is not the company it once was. Tipsord couldn't give a rat's a-- about the employees. It's all about money for him.

A year notice! Yeah right! How about zero notice and sh--ty treatment by a multi billion dollar company. These changes aren’t for customers they are for increasing the executives bonuses

The OP must not be paying attention or smoking something. You don't get years of notice and help in finding another job inside the company. You get involuntary severance, and in some cases have to sign non compete agreements after being told you cannot compete for any openings that were created by the mass exodus and if you are lucky a few months until your QTD. MG 4, 5 and 6s all got 90 days until their QTD and zero notice it was going to happen. Same for RA level claims employees this past Thursday.

Read this response and thought it must be years old. That was State Farm. People are got QTDs this last week with only a few months warning. No relo, just job cuts.
