Thread regarding Sears layoffs

When a store goes into liquidation mode, do the liquidators keep up with attendance ?

Just curious.. do the liquidators follow your availability

Do they care about tardy or call offs

Is it stressful working with liquidators?

It all varies between the team of liquidators and the liquidation company itself. Been through a few where they couldnt care less and were desprate for help, where another would hire anyone off the street to prove a point, and leverage threats at associates, and even management.

In our store we were pretty short-handed. Most of the remaining employees wanted to work extra, but the liquidator limited our overtime and then hired on a bunch of temps. Go figure. If you worked extra to help out she would have a meltdown about the overtime, and if she didn't like you or something you did then she would make your life absolutely miserable. Liquidation was bad but she was awful. Some of us had been through a couple of closings before and the liquidators at those were way better than this last one. So I guess its a matter of luck as to what kind you get.

All of the part timers quit when they announced the store closing. Sears coult not guarantee an amount of money if we stayed the whole time so most of us quit. We came back in the next week hired by the liquidator for twice the money.

You can have nice liquidators and you can have absolutely awful liquidators. We were unfortunate enough to get the second kind. Liquidation was terrible enough, but she made it ten times worse.

If you are full time I wouldn't risk losing a severance package. I closed a store. We were super busy. We needed extra people. Damn sure needed the ones on the schedule to show up on time. I still recorded and held associates accountable for attendance. You can also risk losing your unemployment if they fire you! So go to work when your scheduled!

Attendance/availability - Not that I've noticed, no. As an MCA, my manger is still handing our schedules, etc. And there is no limit on hours now, so most of us that are able to put in lots are doing so anyhow. (I accidentally missed work this last Friday due to an unknown schedule change - I called out when I realized, albeit rather late - and not a word was said.)

Mostly she's just driving my manger crazy with all the things she wants her/us to get done and manager has a hard time getting away from her. :P That's probably the only stressful part, some of these ideas she has and wants done sooner than possible, but so far it's not really all that bad. It's only one lady and she seems nice enough though. Even bought us pizza once.

In my experience they don't care. My store is currently being liquidated, people no call/no show all the time and don't get reprimanded. They leave early or stay as late as they like. The liquidator is more concerned with clearing out the store.

@fnb - What systems are you specifically referring to? The payroll system remains, the cash register system remains, the cash office system remains, however, most other systems and procedures are abandoned. The liquidation process is run by the liquidation company in charge. Our SM got slapped down big time when they tried to challenge the liquidator in charge! Had to take some time off to let the wounds heal. LOL

I found working with the liquidator far less stressful than working with Sears management! Remember, the number one concern of Sears management is to perpetuate the charade that Sears is a thriving and relevant retail entity. That is why you are subjected to a continuous barrage of inane corporate nonsense. In liquidation that all goes away. In some ways it is a relief to be working with a sense of clarity towards an achievable goal. We all know quite well that clarity and achievable goals have never been fostered at SHLD.

But do they follow the same system as Sears? Or something similar?

The store is still run by the normal staff .. liquidators are normally nice , they have a job to do , they work for sears , to get the product and displays out of the store.
