Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

The man some say will become CEO of Oracle has some interesting rules for meetings

http://www.businessinsider.com/oracles-thomas-kurian-has-interesting-rules-for-holding-meetings-2016-8

For instance, he's demanding in meetings, wanting to people to cut to the chase on their slides to get to the part where they discuss problems. If there are no problems, he's been known to cancel the meeting. There are no self-congratulatory, all-is-well meetings with him.

And if there are too many problems? Watch out: He's known for his profanity-laden dress-downs.

It will be a sad day when TK becomes CEO.

Thank God he is finally gone. We are so much better off without him.

You can see lot of parallels between how roman emperors ruled their kingdoms during BC timeframe and how Oracle was run in the last decade... lot of so called work done for the sake of doing something...

Yet another load of drivelling nonsense.

To RWoJZdq-1fgt:

Dumb question! Just read the various threads on this website, and one would know why the stock price is less than impressive. They eliminate talent, management drinks their own kool-aid of shadow and delusion, they hire kids fresh out of college to manage complex, high-dollar deals. That's a joke, and the lack of stock performance is merely a reflection of that.

TK is a smart dude. Problem is he doesn't know how to carry himself.

BTW - Why is Oracle stock always in the sh--ter?

His entire time in Oracle, he has never had a single successful new product ship. Sure, he inherits a lot of great companies (which he then destroys). But what new products and services have been built from the ground up on his watch? FA... our SaaS offerings... All total failures. He doesn't have the vision to run development org, much less the entire company.

He'd made a great product manager for some legacy technology like EBS.

TK reads the slides ahead of the meeting and only wants to talk about things that aren't clear or that he has questions about. I wish most managers read the slides in advance. That's not one of his bad management practices. He's a terrible manager, but not because of this meeting practice.

The guy that only listens for problems is managing up, he's working on covering up any issues that might come up so the guy above him won't see them or he can talk around them.

Real managers attempt to understand what is going on so they can direct the work ahead of problems. Waiting for problems to surface is too late, just doing damage control at that point.

That's where TK's org is, always in chaos, thrashing in different directions all the time, constant damage control and coverups going on.

There is zero chance that TK will be oracle’s CEO, ZERO

That's reassuring. Do you know that for some reason, or is it just wishful thinking?

There are other things to discuss besides problems..... like the future and how to proceed, what's important, etc. If you only listen for problems then you are waiting for the people under you to do all the work and then just report in. What does TK actually do then?
