Some of you will notice that even though layoffs are going on, the company will announce hirings. If this seems illogical it's because it is. And it's going on everywhere, especially recently.
So what's going on?
It is a desperate attempt to save face, to pretend all is well, because corporations HATE having to admit layoffs, as layoffs signal the company is not doing well. This is also why corporations always spin layoff announcements with terms like "RIF" or "Restructure" or many others you have no doubt heard.
This latest gimmick is even more desperate though, as they have to at least pretend to be hiring, and that is what they do, pretend. I know a few people who applied for jobs with companies who were laying off, but said they are hiring.
Here is what happened to them:
The process is slow, glacially slow. Weeks between calls, a month before an interview, and 3-6 months to complete, where at the end you are cordially dismissed as "inappropriate for the role."
Or some other nonsense like that. Folks, welcome to the days of pretend, because the reality is almost all corporations are laying off now or have done recently. Corporations and governments don't like admitting that they're failing, and nothing says fail like massive layoffs.
So they lie, pretend, deceive, especially with "Official government statistics" which tell us things have never been better. I'll leave it to you to decide if things seem like they've never been better.....
