Yea..take the Prigram/prod MGMT levels to pre 2010. Make engineering dir/vp cross functional as engineering leads+prod+program managers..

That way we retain the engineering exp + get rid of product /program bloat

PRigram management is glorified secretary/admin work. SURE, YOU NEED SOMEONE to setup meetings and take notes..but why do we need Sr/staff/director/Sr director/vp/svp program managers? Associates at 1/4 the salary can do and let the engineering leads and directors do the driving and cost stuff..

That may be partially true. But lets face it, Program management is a important function in any organization. Its people who implement , execute and make it happen. If they are unable to drive, understand the issues , solve and close a program on time and under budget with quality then, its a direct reflection of their poor performance as a program manager and department.

Perhaps, Qualcomm needs to redefine the program management role and be par with the industry. I know big companies consider this as important function as any other role!

Bottomline, axe no performers in that role. Not just program manger, but in any role.

Prod managers are a joke. Look at their background - some has political science. Sure. That’s how they win in the dirty politics. They messed up QC since they decide important trchnology based on political science not computer science, seriously. Knowing nothing, becoming director is no surprise if you are a prod manager here.

What do these guys do anyways, have they gone after anything innovative other than going after ideas already in the market ?

Can anyone highlight anything new and innovative after CDMA other than evolving generations of radio and standards ?

Product managers must also be axed big time. 0 contribution.

What are 100+ Product management directors needed for. That would mean bunch of reportees ( is there such a word in english ? ) to these guys. Lets say 5 reports i.e 500 product managers.

Averaging ;

  1. Do you guys have 500 products ?

  2. Why do you need 1 per product ?

Given that there are handful stellar products, how are others evaluated who is driving stellar products ?

Yep 70%. There are 100+ dir prod MGMT doing bs. Every loser who could not do engineering has landed there..90% don't have an MBA. The meetings are all talk..no substance. Worst group and one of the reasons why qc is doing so bad.

No, they are the only safe group. They generate millions a quarter in cash for this place. Who do you think gets 2nd grabs for seats on the G550 flights to Cacun?
