My dad was just laid off by Bank of America, after over two decades with the company. So much about loyalty to the hardest working and most experienced employees.
Bank of America has gone lower than I ever thought possible with this. There was absolutely no indication that this was coming, he is in shock.

I did a voluntary layoff when they started culling MyWork. Nobody will hire me because my knowledge is so entrenched in the Bank of America sphere.,The division of labor and customization is so intense for tech people at BAC that you're in a totally different universe than most techs. I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd be unemployed for 9 months, but here I am! Totally worthless to anyone else. I feel like such a piece of sh-- going from $96K to $0. Pretty soon I'll start applying for restaurant jobs since I can't get hired for any IT job out there. Enjoy the gravy train while you can, fellas.
Leadership is a joke. I was let go after almost 11 years. My group was cut down to 2 people to do the work of 6. First time being laid off and after it sinking in some I feel worse for the ones who are left to suffer.
No one is indispensable and they know it. While it will hurt in terms of lost experience for a while, it will eventually become irrelevant. BAC has no loyalty to anyone and if you think 20 years gets you any better treatment than someone who just started you are delusional.
