Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Backroom / YBM

Well since the backroom is part of the four part rotation for club managers at the YBM there is definitely changes coming for receiving. We can only speculate but I see the clerk p/t or a whole new job description which leads me to the question if they will change enough to receive a severance and let go like audit or just change enough they make us miserable?

It seems to me that they will do what ever they can to keep from paying out severance.

Our clerk doesn't have anything extra all clubs are different. My clerk couldn't do that you must be a good worker.

this clerk is not doing top 50 shrink items! Just bring back the audit team to cover up their mistake

What other clerk is going to start doing the top 50 shrink items every 2 weeks? I dont think clerks are going anywhere.

For the confusion of F/T to P/T and severance: yes you will qualify due to loss of hours as a result of a restructure. Read the policy on the WIRE AND YOU WILL SEE THIS INFORMATION!

If the position/job changes to “p/t clerk”, that is one thing. If you are a f/t associate you now need to look for a F/T position in the Club that you qualify for. If one isn’t found then you would be eliminated and will not have a job and be given a severance. Any part timers in the Club that qualify will apply for that new position which is another thing. These are “two” separate/different issues. You must not confuse these two.

It doesn’t matter whether people agree with you or not, that doesn’t change the policy. What the last poster stated is correct. Price verifiers (Walmart) were just told their positions were moved to part time because they no longer needed them 40 hours. Those associates were not offered severance. A couple of them that I know was told they could be secondary in other job codes.

A full time position also includes health benefits which is a necessity. If they get rid of full time and change job description to part time, to me that is eliminating the original full time description. Anybody agree?

If a position becomes pt that still does not qualify you for severance because that means that position has not been eliminated and you still have a job. You qualify for severance if your position is completely phased out.

Our invoice clerks can handle anything they throw at us! After all, we have been changing what we do on a daily basis in Receiving.

Can a f/t associate be forced to become a p/t associate? If not, then the invoice clerk’s position; which is currently f/t, will be eliminated and severance should be offered. Please reply.

For the person whom asked if they do not accept the position do they qualify for severance. No. If you are given a position you do not qualify. If your position is eliminated and are told you may apply for the new position then yes you do qualify.

The Misery quotient is always a top consideration.. .after many years with the corporation I can state most assuredly that misery is something they actively foster...85 percent of all changes I have seen have upped the misery factor ..as close to always as they can muster they make sure that something good done for us comes with something bad..and something almost never done is go back to something that was less miserable.. always forward always more pain...that is the closed door management motto when planning for hourlies.............

So are they using the millions of personal and sick hrs they banked for the employees...that was a part of their wages to accomplish all these changes ?

Shouldn't they have to pay it out now that they are closing clubs and eliminating positions ?

Or is it the 60 day severance pay to meet the WARN requirement

I am a receiving invoice clerk and I just have one question. If they do change my job to part time and I decided to leave, will I qualify for the severance pay?

It;s on the wire. It's how they breakdown the topics for the YBM and the CM do rotations thru the areas. If you look on amp . What the club managers are required to bring and what they will be doing is on there.

after 25 yrs I don't remember any mention of backrooms as a major topic at YBM
