Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Mutual Company

Do you want to make a difference and get the point across to the Board of Directors? Remember as a Mutual Company who elects the Board. The Board then elects the CEO. The next time you get that little envelope talking about Board elections..Pay attention and make sure you vote. The names of the board members are also available for all to see.

Here is a "bad" aspect of being a mutual company. The Board is of course made up of executives former execs from various companies. Just like any Board of Directors. In a "regular" corporation those Board members usually own a significant amount of stock and have a financial stake in the company. If the company does poorly it impacts the personal bottom line of the Board members. In this case the Board members have no skin in the game. They can look at the farm as a playground to implement various things to see if they work so those items can be taken back to the companies that make them money. This leads to the following question. Has the farm become a Petri Dish and the employees are the objects being experiments on within the dish?

How often do you vote? I'm a recent hire but have not seen this before. I've also been apolicy holder for years and don't recall it.
