So "zrxj", Please share what you really think...
It's this week or next week, you can take it to the bank (or unemployment line).
I would bet the RA will happen before THINK and they will want this group out by the end of March. A few years ago, I know people who were RAd right before 'Insight' and were taking clients to the event, they were still directed to attend the event. Management did not care then and will not care now, it is all about reducing payroll.
"No layoffs before the THINK conference. IBM does not want anything overshadowing that event."
Other things might be more important to IBM, such as getting folks off the books before end of 1Q and start of 2Q. The stock market loves layoffs, so that's a plus they might want to get right to. As far as the event, based on the emails I've been getting internally, registration has been abysmal. A week or so ago they were still at only 30% of target, just horrible, despite running all kinds of incentives and giving away passes. They'll pad it with employees and business partners and free passes, but it's already a bust. Pretty sad because they combined all of the other poorly attended conferences into one big shindig this year, hoping it would be a big deal. The folks who attend the conference don't know or care that IBM laid off a bunch of people. It happens so much now that it doesn't even make the news.
Plus, since sales/tech sales are getting whacked big-time in this one, it would save IBM the cost of sending them to the conference.
I think it's more likely to be either this week or next. Since they're doing two weeks notice now, it makes more sense. March 30 will be the last day for those cut. Stand by for culling...

On the Watching IBM Facebook page, there was an anonymous post saying that 20-30% of the NA sales force would be cut by the end of this week. No word on if anyone else would be affected.
Do we have a timeframe for "soon"? This week? Next week?
Only for US, or other countries as well?
IBM will fail , what’s goes around comes around. Corporate water boarding is what they have done with employees. Worked for over 38 years and Last 6 to 7 years had been horrible. Funny how someone leaks layoffs just before the axe falls, seems like an insider who wants to add to the misserary. All dogs have their day.......
Standard Operating Procedure for IBM...
For some of us, we joined as naive college grads for our first jobs. And for many of us, we're just sticking around to get that magical number of 2-3 years of experience before jumping. Granted, with the waves of layoffs that's assuming we make it that far.
"When did they ever stop layoffs? Seems like this news is around the clock at IBM."
Quite true, unfortunately. Waves never stop coming to shore, but if you're standing in the ocean it's good to know when the next big one is coming, so you can brace.
It's hard to understand why people stay in that turbulent, cold, unforgiving ocean (IBM), but easy to understand why overwhelmingly those who have left state that it was the best decision they have made, and they are much happier.
