Thread regarding Sears layoffs

True story

I have Kenmore fridge went to sears to get a new water filter for it. I approach the two guys staring in to space in the appliance dept say I need a new one for my fridge one just points and says over there. They didn't follow ask me or ask if the could help. After attempting to match the numbers on the old one I walk over and say I am not finding what I need. He says whats the number I give it to him, I get a that means nothing to me I need a sears number. I give him that number he says that's an old number and stares at me. I say would ya like to maybe go over and help me find the right one. I then get a lesson on old numbers vrs new numbers and all proud that he sufficiently made a point that I dont know what I need he snatch's one off the rack and hands to me. I look at it and its obviously the wrong one and I show him the picture he grabs a different one and say it might work. Its $54. I go maybe he says maybe.

I walk away pull my phone out pull up amazon plug the number in he says is wrong .. bam $30 exact same one, got two days later plugged right in.

I was literally one of two people i seen in the whole store as i walked back to be ignored and treated like i was dumb and a bother.

I sold in 46 many years ago. I sold the filters all day long. The dang things paid an 8% commission, and those little $30-$35 dollar sales added up quickly. Every dollar would help cover my draw, and soon I'd be selling for myself. I spent a fairish amount of time getting the FEN quantities jiggered so our unit could have more filters. And we sold every one our DC shipped. May years ago, of course. I quit the year Sears was purchased by K Mart. I could see how that was going to go.

Appliance salespeople are often resentful at having to do anything besides sell appliances, because of their commission setup. Even accessories for an appliance that was purchased from Sears are 'beneath them'. Even when there's no other customers in sight, just in case they might miss a potential appliance sale while dealing with you.

It doesn’t really matter what store because you can’t do anything about it anyway.

Well... there are people who s--- at their jobs in all industries. Retail is no different. Although on the other hand he could have been as clueless as you about about which filter works, or more so. (Though, yeah, not going with you when he wasn't doing anything else was stupid. Even if I'm clueless too, I at least try to use good judgement and help someone make the right decision for them.)

It's like the people on my floor who somehow think I'm an expert about how to use a particular small appliance they're looking at, or know all about that piece of luggage, or if the kid's clothing item will shrink... Geeze people, we're a DEPARTMENT store, not a SPECIALTY shop that specializes in and knows ALLL about that product. I just stock, straighten, and help you find it (among many other duties), I didn't manufacturer it and I don't own 99.9% of the stuff there!

AS the OP I will let you know , I am not a short seller. I went to sears because that's where we bought the refrigerator. My wife was a lead for many years and told me to go to sears to get the item. So after being blown off at the store the exact same attitude is displayed here. So unbelievably sad.

Why didn't you just "pull" out your phone in the first place.... or go to Sears.com... go away troll. Are the tools who work at Walmart any better?

@zcq- Years ago our store had a situation in which a lady wanted to purchase a hardline item in our children's department. Week after week she would inquire about its availability and week after week she would be told it was still out of stock. After about six weeks the lady was so frustrated that she called corporate to inquire as to why this item was not being replenished. The representative told the lady that it was a vendor issue; specifically, that there was a manufacturing problem and the vendor had none to ship. The lady in turn called the vendor to inquire when this situation would be rectified. The vendor told the lady that there was no problem at all; that their warehouse had plenty of the item on hand and ready to ship. The vendor told the lady that Sears was just not placing any orders for the item. The lady then came into our store and tore into our SM wanting to know why she was being lied to by Sears.

Always keep in mind, a Sears Appliance "Associates" job is not to sell merchandise, it is to correct and belittle the people who put the $$ in their paycheck. Yes, don't help your customer, humiliate them and surely they will return. They have to, where else can they possibly buy appliances?

And the customer survey question is, "Would you recommend SEARS to a friend"?

And, in the answer lays, exactly, why SEARS is where it is today,

Remember, fondly your experience at SEARS and tell anyone who will listen.

@RZ3 obviously English isn’t your first language. What is? Maybe then we can help you. Obviously these people couldn’t understand when you were mumbling “wa-fa, wa-fa” they probably assumed you needed a bathroom and pointed you to the bathrooms.

Surprise they had filters in stock. Our store hasnt had them or humidifier filters for over 6 months and the date to get them in is six weeks out. They tell us vendor supply issues, but you can get them on Amazon. I wonder how many vendors know that SHC is telling people they (the vendors) are the problem not Sears

Exactly. This is why our internet sales are up.

Sorry you had this experience Mr Short Seller, however, the good news is Sears is actually making more money on these when u buy them online, thru our store or thru Amazon.

That’s a wow experience.
