Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Store downsizing question.....

...as in Sears stores that have condensed from 2 levels to 1 so that another retail tenant comes in and occupies the floor vacated by Sears.

Question is:

Since the store is downsizing, have they also downsized the number of associates in these stores...as in letting go from the company as part of the process due to the now smaller size of the store?

Yes. We went from 85 associates to 36 associates in our store.

Reason I ask is that several stores in our region have vacated a floor to allow another tenant to move in......and ours may be doing the same within a year to year and a half....The rumor mill has started regarding getting rid of most of the remaining full timers and replacing with part timers when this downsizing takes place.

Some freestanding stores are downsizing on their own, moving merchandise to a single floor from two. The empty floor will be roped off or used for special events or flex area in between seasons (like a bargain basement.) We heard this from our regional.
