Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Executive layoffs

I was an apm that left the company several months ago fearing that the ap and ops layoffs would happen. I can tell you that executives are not getting more advanced notice than regular associates. The Vpsm's and district leaders promise everyone there is nothing to worry about until they host a mandatory conference call 1 hour before the news is public to everyone. When I left they assured me my fears were unfounded, if I had stayed I would have just lost my job and my family would be living in anxiety. Macys will eventually get rid of anyone store level with a salary and combine as many roles as they can. The company will always put out a positive message for the future, the people giving those messages don't believe them themselves. If your smart you'll jump ship.

Macy’s is laying off all asset protection managers and HR managers at the store level - not a good move if they intend to survive

Not everyone wants to relocate to cities or relocate in general. I would imagine you don’t have kids and if you do you don’t mind yankig them out of schools and established relationships. I’m sure your doing that for under 125k a year, that’s BS if you ask me. That’s the problem family is not first anymore, companies would keep that in mind and make it worth it to do that. I would have stayed in the military if I wanted to move my kids around constantly, at least then I could retire after 20... just one mans thoughts

Your smart for reading between the lines and prioritizing your peace of mind and family. Secure a job first with the company and then jump ship. It's getting more difficult for everyone, but Macy's is not alone in the brick & mortar business going thru it. Associate, SM workload has been intolerable for most that they cannot concentrate on sales. It's ridiculous for the OP/SP executive, a position that will be a huge challenge for most, but to keep the job, one swims or drowns. I too jumped ship when my job function was added on to another for the same pay. Good luck to those who need it.

this is not a dead industry, there's just a shift as to where the careers are. Unfortunately if you want a career in retail you need to move to one of the major retail hub cities (New York, Columbus, LA) , work for one of the big dogs in their respective cities (Seattle, Little Rock, Minny) or work in a one of the major logistics centers. I've been in this idustry with a career for over 10 years and have always came out ahead whenever there's major change, but that's only b/c I've been willing to move to the right city for the right job.

There’s not many places to jump ship to! How people buy things is changing as well as how retailers do business. This is a dead end industry in regards to careers. It’s all about who you know, not what you know.
