Thread regarding IBM layoffs

What will reassignment really mean?

Everybody is focusing on 10,000 layoffs in GTS expected by IBM, but I am more interested in what the reassignments will mean for the rest of us.

This sounds like an ideal opportunity for IBM to demote a huge number of people and cut our salaries under the guise of reorganization.

I wouldn't be surprised if people ended up quitting in droves to avoid huge pay cuts, which might be the plan all along.

Either way, it's a win for IBM and loss for us.

I have known several RA'd in the past and I believe they are "red flagged" to any IBM hiring manager.

Some were excellent workers with a great work ethic and were not called back for any job at IBM they applied for. Something is fishy about that. They had 30 days to find something else within IBM or they were gone.

The other case of being reassigned is what will probably happen with the several IBM locations that are leased and those leases are coming to an end.

With the tax incentives now long gone from those cities/states, IBM will probably use that as leverage to get more incentives to stay.

If IBM leaves all these people will be laid off!

Oh no, we need to keep IBM here! (shame on you people when fooled twice)

Some of those towns are so low brow they are willing to do anything to keep IBM.

"Reassignment" is a false flag and in reality a comfort blanket to provide a glimmer of hope and curtail a sense of total despair amongst current GTS staff. When the first batch are RA'd, most of those in the "re-assignment" pool will follow suit. It's just a way of phasing the impact over time and realisation by staff staff of just how dire conditions will be post RA. Only saving grace is that managers will NOT be immune this time.

Well IBMers could go work for DXC which was formerly CSC and HPE Services but even that is a cesspool based on comments on this website. Where can anyone go? Does it really matter where you go?
