Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Co Manager Update

CoManagers, Thank you for a job well done, thru the Holidays and the Year!

These changes are coming about after you have worked extremely hard long, hours and taken time away from your family through the Holidays! Also, after you have probably given up PTO and time off through the year as well.

This is very confidential Information, and all have been threatened that if there is a leak and they can find the individual, they will be terminated. WOW!! What transparency! Maybe the new leadership should learn the Culture! Respect for the Individual, be honest, forth coming and keep the open discussion environment. The UNVARNISHED TRUTH should work both ways and not just up! Maybe your Regional, Market or Store Manager should look to trust in you and tell you the truth if not is this the type of Company that you want to work for?

The Unvarnished Truth!!

  1. Meetings held last Friday with all Mkt Managers, Mkt Human Resource Managers and all Store Managers. (Remember the level of talent in these positions: Several have never run stores at the Market level, but will be making the decision for the future!)

a. Talent discussions were held on all CoManagers. Very subjective discussions and not a very

level set meeting. A lot of favoritism, and buddy system playing out.

b. Not all of the best were selected, a lot of good talent will be lost in this process and not even

be retained as assistant managers. What a drain on talent again.

c. CoManagers were banded within the following catagories:

RED - Not retained or gets immediate severance pay and no time to look for a job. If you

have a coaching then you will fall into this category.

YELLOW - You will get an option to demote to an assistant manager; or 60 days pay and

severence.

GREEN - You will be offered a position. It may not be in your current store; or 60 days pay

and severence.

  1. All Regionals held a conference call with all Mkt Teams, Store Managers, and CoManagers. Basically gave the WalMart talking points.

a. Not a long term position, must be actively applying for stores and has a 3 year longevity.

b. Store Volumes and placement of CoManagers:

$80 million to $90 million dollars in sales = 1 CoManager position

$90 million to $125 million dollars in sales = 2 CoManager positions

$125 million and above in sales dollars = 3 CoManager positions

  1. All levels of management have been through this process Divisionals, Regionals, Mkt Managers, and their counter parts in Asset Protection, Health & Wellness, and Human Resources. (Though most at the Regional level above were given preference options).

  2. All the 1700 Assistant Manager positions that will be added will be in Online Pickup and Grocery Pickup and will not be immediate.

  3. There were Regional Hiring events for assistant manager placement back in November and December. Why if they new that this was coming? This was not dreamed up after New Years.

  4. The week of Christmas there was information that came out in reference to the Policy change on Voluntary Demotion Request regarding Management. Wow there must be a lot looking to get out. Now this change.

You should always be prepared with a resume and the leave for a better opportunity. A lot will stay through this process and be caught up in the same process in future years. Use your time to better yourself and get out of this Company and go somewhere that you will be valued.

GOOD LUCK and WISH ALL WELL with the outcome and the process!!

Question. I was recently a co mgr released a week ago in this restructure too. I am likely looking to go back as an asst if can as i do need a job. Question is if I get a job as an asst mgr do they drug test me again or since i was a co mgr is that not done. I live in a recreational state and that, coupled with this sh--ty development caused me to inhale. Rather not ruin my chances so straight and narrow now but I cannot find policy on this specific situation and no way am I going to ask the market he as they are evil incarnate. Honestly would like some help.

I got laid off the same way with 22 years. Many people I work with were also laid off. Everyone was 40 plus years old and had many years of service. The younger less seiniored people were kept. So march 30th when we are all termed the company gets all our reserve stock units back that are not vested yet. For me this is 40 thousand dollars so if you multiply that out to 500 people and I am sure most had more then that. Walmart will have even more money from it. It's disgraceful. I'm wondering if any law firm may see there may be a class action law suit here that could be substantial.

Age discrimination for sure. Same job but the ones who were kept were either young or had the buddy system going.

Our market in Michigan, it looks as though the layoffs are total politics and not just a removal of the Co manager position. Does any one else see the trend that they only got rid of more senior Co Mangers, and kept the recently promoted ones? In our market, they kept minorities (women, African Americans, G--’s and transgender) and let go of white men...

Also, recently they added Fresh Grocery position and all of those positions were filled with Women. I know a few years back, there was a big class action lawsuit because there was not enough women in management roles. But I feel it’s not fair to just go out and start laying off your men! I’m a firm supporter of equality in the work place. Therefore, I feel as though promotions, and layoffs should not be chosen based on s-x, color, or age.....

I’m in my 30’s I’ve been with the company for 15 years and worked my way up to the Co Manager position, it’s just very upsetting.

No age discrimination

Walmart is one of the few places that will hire old people. The problem is people being there 20-30 years getting paid well while younger people out working them getting crap. One of the reasons co-managers are being fired is because they are over paid when an asst manager could do it...

Been employed for 10 years, I am getting 23 weeks PAID out at end of march AND, I am on paid leave for Feb and March while I search for another job. All benefits remain the same during paid leave, including eligible for the yearly bonus. Not too shabby.

Sam's Club going hot and heavy with layoffs and restructuring Management.

Post ID: @Rt4DTZF-1ade

I was an APM and had been with the company just under 5 years. Yes, I got the 60 days. Yes, I can apply for open positions. Yes, I can receive a severance. But it was all very suddenly done. My General Manager and Co-mgr were also let go.

This is how Walmart communicates.

Store Manager Talking Points to Management:

The below talking point should be used during meetings with your management team to tell them about the changes. This meeting should not occur until after all individual co-manager conversation have been held.

-I have some important information to share with you about changes in our store that you may already be aware of.

-The overall pace of change we are looking to deliver as a company continues to accelerate.

-We must create an Operations structure that reflects the recent and future changes in our business and is right-sized for our future initiatives and growth as a store and company.

-To be a retailer that is fit for the future, we must operate more efficiently and have a structure to meet our customers' needs.

-With this in mind, the decision has been made to reorganize the store structure across the company at the co-manager level, using a talent-based approach. The number of co-managers with our store has been adjusted, based on our store's specific sales volume.

-We will now have __ (insert number of co-managers allotted here) co-managers in our store.

[During the next section of the meeting be personable and explain your stores individual situation]

-This means that we have fewer co-managers on our team going forward.

__ (insert name here) is staying in our store.

__ (insert name(s) here) is/are transferring to store(s) _, and their last day with us is Friday.

__ (insert name(s) here) is/are leaving our store and has 60 days to find another position within the company.

-We will also have a new co-manager(s) _ (insert name here) joining our store on _(insert date here).

-I will have more details about what areas each co-manager will have at a later date.

-Additionally, the role of a co-manager in the future is changing. We are asking all co-managers to be prepared to become a store manager in 2 to 3 years.

-You may wonder what growth opportunities there may be for you. Talent at every level is critically important and the ASM role will continue to build our talent pipeline in the future.

Your positions are even more important now.

-Individual conversations with our co-managers have already occurred.

-Keep in mind this kind of change can be difficult and emotional, and these impacted co-managers are still a part of our Walmart family. We must be committed to supporting and helping them through this transition.

-I need your help being flexible and positively leading our associates through this change. I know that you will.

-I will be conducting a store meeting to let all of our associates know of these co-manager changes.

Please be ready for any questions that may come up, and walk around and check on each associate. They all may be impacted differently by the news.

-Please be ready for any questions that may come up.

-What questions do you have for me?

-If you think of any questions or have any concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know. I may not have the answer immediately, but I will get you one.

-Thank you.

This is NOT rumor. The store I work at had 4 Co managers. They each went to a local hotel on Friday 1-26-18 for their "meeting" each at different times. The first Co ( and longest tenured) to go to the meeting never has came back. Of the other 3, only 1 is staying at our store. The other 2 (newest Co's) were given other offers. Our store manager was out all last week on leave, and is still out this week as well.

So to those not believing the post (or "forewarning") from a year ago; think again!

This is happening people....and it is real.

Here you go Store Managers.

Time to start evaluating yourself. If you have any coachings or performance issues, buckle up.

Assistant Managers were hit during this process as well.

All based on performance so there is no severance.

I do not wish this on anyone. Good luck to all.

Ha. This is beautiful, being there front and center to watch this Raptire-esque career plague sweeping down to smite these miserable and obsolete Co-dogs is the only reason i'd like to still be on the clock for this black hearted company. ... There was a co in one of my town's stores who recently got fired after nearly 40 yeas with the company, for simply defending himself against a shop lifter's attack. He was DEFENDING hmself----and got f i r e d. But this was the same puke who himself had personally terminated over a third of that store's night shift, good folk who'd been there for over twenty years.

Karma, baby.

Most Co-managers at Walmart ran their area like Store Mgr’s, others like an Asst. mgr getting paid as a Co-Mgr. I agree that you enjoy your family and move on, good luck finding the same pay and based on my experience, it wasn’t about favoritism, it was about productivity......

Tomorrow will be dicision day for the yellow and green banded Comgrs. Comgrs offered a position will report to their new store on February 3, others tell whether they want to be placed into the Asst Mgr posted positions.

Store Mgrs will meet with hourly associates and explain how this was a good move for the company etc... and it will be turned around to the Comgrs decisions in some aspect.

Terrible.

Just do not use your BYOD, then there is nothing traceable to you. No names are to be used.

Walmart want this shut down and to use scare tactics.

If you really got terminated show the proof. You have nothing to lose now.

Don't need fbi or subpoena on Facebook or here for an HR manager to pull up public posts and screenshots they had! Remember, BYOD makes them able to access all your phone info. I am so done with you and why so interested in encouraging everyone to keep posting?

Fellow CO's be careful on here and other sites.......just saying.

There is like a trillion messages on this site, so, people are posting without fear. Just look at the "latest posts" in the header of the site...

Try go get info from Facebook or Google on who's posting what. Good luck, they do not give it to the FBI unless a subpoena is issued, and for that you need to have a major crime happening.

Why would getting any info from thelayoff.com be any different?

GREAT SCARE TACTIC!!!! but will not work. Media would love to get that type of information! and Walmart would not want that in the media.

The Company does not have access to the ISP post from this website. There are a lot of phones to follow on BYOD, must have been something else that had been pulled from your phone. Anyone can connect to an ISP if open. It would be hard for them to hold to this process.

Suggest using Google Incognito and immediately after posting close out the window. Saves webiste history on your device.

Or public access wifi will work as well. Starbucks, McDonalds, etc...

Always good to have a VPN network, may cost a little but gives you that security. Try NordVPN or TOR networks. Non traceable.

Just don't use your BYOD device to post. I to question that post on termination. Social media post states nothing to this matter either. .

Suggest using Google Incognito and immediately after posting close out the window. Saves no information.

Yes, I was fired yesterday for violation of social media policy.

Just trying to spare the remaining of you from my misfortune.....now my family gets no compensation!

I did have 4 lines (husband and sons/) in addition to my personal and work phone but was all with AT&T so you are not safe posting here if you have it.

To the person who replied to my message you must be with home office I.T. ?

Not to spoil the pity party going on at this site but during your transition period you can still be terminated for violation of social media policy!

Anyone using the name of their employer in your post will be terminated.

Go to a public IP address to post....... when you sign up for BYOD you've unknowingly agreed to make your employer a third party on your account.

YES.....true, I received call yesterday and was terminated for it.

It amazes me that stores that are considered Complex will keep a Comgr even if under the sales volume threshold. The management in those stores are already paid a higher salary, and given a simple sales and profit plan, due to the supposedly complex situation.

The Complex situation in these stores is usually poor management. Seems like the problem is still not fixed as you have to add management due to the poor performing management still in place.

Wake up these stores are still filled with poor performers in all levels management. The money is not enough and you will never attract the right talent without it. Close them down they are a drain on the others.

This post is in reference to Post ID: @-cpzk below.

You have lost your mind on the NDA agreement. Non disclosure agreements are in place with senior level executives and usually approved and signed by corporate council.

Walmart would have a problem with making it stick in court. The ones that were signed by the managers in our meetings are basically a scare tactic, that if you leak something you will be terminated.

Walmart can terminate you without this in almost all states, it is known as employment at will states. You can be fired for a good reason, bad reason or no reason at all.

Wake up and report what is right. Post a copy of an NDA for store management or hourlies. We would love to see it.
