Thread regarding Sears layoffs

More Cuts!

Job cuts and company restructure coming to the Sears side of the company next week. It’s all based on store profitability. Some stores will cut down a lot, some a bit, and some wont be touched. Just heard it from a friend that works in our region. Will not post the region because I dont wanna get this person in trouble. Good luck to everyone and try to stay positive through these hard times.

Trucks and vendors shipments can unload themselves. I guess no need to unload them now. Maybe Eddie has some robots on the way to unload the 2 we haven't. Been that way for a month.

Makes me glad my store has begun liquidation. Adios Sears. The company will sink more and more with this format.

@2yxc. Are you saying a store manager OR an ASM? I thought ASM's were being demoted to hourly zone supervisors? So are you saying there is still going to be an ASM, and if so is it an ops ASM?

@Rib2sad-2yxc Thats crazy your store has been in this format for so long. It sounds like a hostile environment so much cutted in the work area man s---s that receiving would be getting hardest out of all of them.

@yxc - Are trucks going back to pallets? I can't imagine floor associates spending 1-3 hours unloading a truck by each piece. Heck, I can't imagine regular floor associates taking over all of the backroom tasks much less the physical aspect of the job.

It's bad enough backroom at our store only gets 80 hours a week (and our web orders have increased significantly, so other things fall way behind).

In the Simple Store process the backroom leads are no more. There are no backroom leads, or any leads in any departments. The backroom will be run by a regular associate and only two or three people will unload any trucks. The backroom will be totally empty (or that is the idea) by the One Touch program.

You will usually have a SM or one ASM and a hardline sales floor supervisor and a softline sales floor supervisor.

They will make regular associates key carriers who are like the MOD but with only a small raise. These key carriers will take conference calls and do everything any manager would do. No more leads, no more backroom associates.

Our store has been doing this for around 18 months.

@2amg thank you. So a lead pay would equal the same amount I make at Ross Stores. I make $9.25hr there.

South Carolina does not have a state minimum wage just the federal one.

@2rtz - Backroom leads typically earn $1.50-2.00 over minimum wage.

@1cfa- It is a "WOW" experience. People come in look at the state of the stores and say, "WOW, this place s**ks.

@2rtz- All stores are going to the "Simple store" concept. THey are doing it in stages. Nothing new really, most retailers have been doing something like simple store for years

Does anyone in here know if Sears FLS #2855 is going to Simple Store?

Also, anyone know what a Backroom Lead makes at a FLS?

@Rib2sad-1jgk Thats why I been saying and lots of other people do not over work yourself for this crap company. They don't care at all for you. The company will eliminate the bottom people and protect once again the ones that make the most and for them not to lose their nice pay checks cut a bunch of positions. I don't even know why people still (coming from the work force) worshiping Sears and say its a great company with great work ethics.

Its been said many times do your basic job needs do not do anything extra at this point anyone staying in the company is either waiting for it to sink (jump to unemployment). If you need something long term its best you get out of it at this point their is no future this company is done its way to much in debt to its on life support at this time.

@1jgk "Which idiot decided that longer lines, messy salesfloors, poor service and run down stores are the keys to bring us back to profitabily."

Talk about a WOW experience!

This is just terrible. Some of us give our heart, sweat and tears for this company and this is what we get in return. All because these people running the company dont care and ran these two legacy brands to the ground. I am so angry and disgusted. Whats the point? Just shut the doors already! We barely made it through the day with the skeleton crew we have now. We will not be turning a profit, if we cant run stores efficiently. Which idiot decided that longer lines, messy salesfloors, poor service and run down stores are the keys to bring us back to profitabily. This is so sad. Good luck everyone that gets cut and stay positive and strong. For those of you that stay also good luck because its going to get tougher.

All Sears SGMs are attending mandatory meetings early next week where they will learn of the new store structures and how many ASMs, Leads, and FTers they will be laying off at each store. Unfortunately the higher your current compensation is, the more likely it is that you'll be laid off rather than offered a lower position (e.g. ASM to Zone Supervisor). Good luck to all.

Our store cut the Softlines Zone Supervisor quite a while ago, leaving just the HL and Ops Supervisor. Losing what's left of our leads combined with the skeleton crew we have would be absolutely brutal.

@1xvh Your total compensation would now depend on how many hours you get scheduled for, so it's hard to say. I don't know if severance will be offered (I'm guessing not), but if you are given that option, IMO it's time to take the severance pay and find a new job elsewhere before you have to put a demotion on your resume.

If you are an ASM and they offer you hourly zone rep is it a huge cut in pay and will you have an option of leaving with a severance?

It's like cut until we have nothing left. It will balance out in his liquidation sales that are coming.

@cyt-- This has already happened at most Kmart the last two years. First it happens at Kmart and then in the Sears. I used to be one of the key carriers at my store. As a key carrier you become the MOD with a $1 increase in pay and all the responsibilities of a manager with none of the power. Not worth it.

@1cym, I'm @1cyt. As for your question, nothing happens to the <12m stores other than the loss of any leads and the institution of key-carrier associates to replace the loss of MOD coverage (if those stores haven't already started their key carrier program).

@Rib2sad-1cyt Thank you so much for the extra info (as well for the OP). It is damn time!!!! Thanks for the rough draft so I can now get an idea who is actually going to get eliminated in my store sounds like a huge massacre. I mean its just insane how many people are going to get eliminated its like a WOW experience as our dumb managers says it. I can already see them offering me the extra work and as you mentioned (about code 2 and 4s) not taking such commitment unless I am offered more money if they push it on me I will reject such extra work for no extra compensation I am willing to go as far as just quitting on the spot if they push it and don't pay me more.

This is information as part of a region-level discussion. This is a "draft" of what is planned, so nothing is set in stone. However, if this goes forward, it applies across the whole company, at least for the Sears format.

Remaining ASMs ($12 million or more) will be converted to hourly Zone Supervisors.

There will be no change for stores with existing Zone Supervisors, other than the loss of any lead roles.

Operations ASM/supervisor role will be eliminated across the Sears format, regardless of sales volume.

FJ lead role will be eliminated and their duties will incorporated into the role of the Softlines Zone Supervisor. Any other lead roles -- Footwear, Softlines MCA, HA sales, backroom, footwear -- will all be eliminated. The store manager and zone supervisors will take over the duties of these roles.

Stores will designate up to six associates (based on sales) to act as key carriers with the ability to perform basic MOD duties (Codes 2 and 4) as well as store opening and closing tasks. These associates will be chosen by the store manager and will be required to pay a Level 2 background check. It is penciled out that these associates will earn $1-1.50/hr in addition to their regular hourly pay.

Restructuring aka Simple Store

Post ID: @fhq+Rib2sad

In the latest public statement they told the world they would make another $200m in cuts not related to store closures. So for sure more restructuring and job cuts are on the way. It's hard to imagine how they will operate these stores with even less staff, but they will try it anyway. Keep positive everybody and keep working on your exit strategy. All jobs at Sears Holdings are temporary employment...
