I got the axe already and was laid off at the end of 2017. I got a call this morning that more people have gotten the axe already at the beginning of 2018 and will be leaving in March. It seems that Fidelity has been laying off people in small groups since the beginning of 2017 so as to avoid lawsuits and federal / state layoff laws. Mix enough younger employees and throw in some benefits and do it in smaller waves to avoid lawsuits and the press. I guess the goal is to achieve a 70% offshore 30% onshore tech makeup as the long term plan as only US based employees have gotten the axe.

Your comment that only US based employees have been let go is not accurate. A few weeks ago, Fidelity cut a high performing tech team based in Ireland. They were given a chance to find another position within a different business unit. The company is looking at cost cutting measures across the board.

I know that the HR peoples are busy.
They laid off 1700 people in January.....really????????
In January they laid off nearly 1700 people.
Don't tell on yourself thinking it will save you. They'll fire you anyway.
I don’t understand how they can fire someone for returning something unless it clearly stated in the signed form what to do for returns. If someone bought a computer, returned it a few weeks later and bought a different one they shouldn’t be fired for it. Unless the reimbursement form clearly stated you have to resubmit for returns, I don’t see how fieing is legal here.
It appears the computer and fitness issue has reawakened. If you did one of these improply and you are registered it may be worth it for you to quit so it doesn’t go on your U5. Appears there is no end in sight as SLC and WLK have been getting hit.
Common Judgement mean anything to anyone! Nah, they don't conspire at all! Probably the only thing that is done bottom up effectively!
executives don't conspire... but they do 'consult employment lawyers' to minimize legal ramifications. that is just smart business sense
Do executives conspire ways to get around lawsuits?????
YES, THEY DO!!

The whole age discrimination claim is getting old. Do people really think executives conspire ways to get around lawsuits? Sounds to me like smaller layoffs are the result of each business unit having headcount goals and giving each department flexibility to cut when it makes sense for them. It's not like they are backfilling after cutting to get cheaper labor.
