Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Randomly moving employees

Is it true that State Farm is randomly moving employees to new roles without consulting the employee? I have had three people tell me that the bank in Bloomington has randomly selected analysts to be moved to collections as collectors and Tempe has randomly selected analysts to be moved to claims as claim representatives. They haven’t reduced their pay but they have also changed their work hours to less than desirable hours. Is this a cowardly attempt to upset employees so they will quit and State Farm can avoid paying unemployment?

Is this the real reason they made all claims jobs RA job grade from RB? So that it appeared being a claim handler is no different than being an exempt Analyst? So slimy.

It is not that the “phone jobs” are unimportant (they are). After all the changes, nothing matters but metrics and numbers. Trying to just do those jobs properly AND meet the metics is awful. I’ve seen a lot of people get fired for cheating to make their numbers. But it’s really leadership at this sh--hole that created a cheating culture. Anyone who stays at this awful place after being subjected to a humiliating reassignment is only there because they are traumatized and unable to act.

I find it so odd that all the lifers commenting place such a low value on those “phone jobs”. You know those jobs that service customers and keep everyone employed. The problem here is State Farm leadership has let analyst be more important then they should be, paid way more then the value they bring in. We have claims reps with inventories of 200-300, and yet are paid less then analyst that only push paper and have very low ROI. Let’s be honest, we have to many analyst that got their positions because of nepotism.

Happened to me - no choice. Analyst to Claim Specialist. I know of at least 25 others they did the same thing to. They are targeting the employees with high salaries - hoping they will Quit or be fired because of the impossible expectations.

Fascinating to read. I left a high paying position at age 50 without being prompted to do something else. I cannot say if the transition is being done well; but State Farm should have been reorganized and thinned years before I left. I was able top take any division and clean it up taking large amounts of waste out because culture and history allowed management to spend money irresponsibly.

I realize that being hired into an environment like State Farm one can feel like something is owed to them. You are owed nothing. While I always felt the company needed to get ahead of the curve on reorganization so pri8ce could allow agents to be competitive in the market place; if anything the company was honest and much more open about the busienss environment than most.

If you are so talented (and many are); put yourself out there and move on. If you want to remain inside State Farm; work with them to fit the new model and work like hell. It will be good for the organization and keep you relevant in future plans for the company.

In addition the claims mgr who got to keep their jobs many of them had to move to do so. SMs as well. This is all so silly. People who did keep their jobs are uprooted in both systems and claims. I'm so sad at how this company I love is behaving. It's common knowledge that analyst here in Bloomington are in the chopping block. Stupid stupid stupid.

Supervisors & Managers have been moved from other areas into Bank Collections. My girl is sitting next to a Manager.

Them moving people to new jobs and expecting them to perform is a tactic to eventually fire people or get them to quit. Remember, don’t ever admit to anyone you did anything wrong especially your manager. If you have an interview, keep it hush. You’ll get pushback because there might not be capacity but do your best to go without them knowing. If you’re not meeting the numbers keep saying that you’re new or whatever. Be careful about internet usage and your mouse movements too. They have software that can track everything. It’s beyond f---ed up.

They move people where they see fit. it's possible that one can go from being an analyst RA1/RA2 exempt employee to having job title switched and back to paraprofessional once restructure is complete. That’s supposed to be Jan/Feb. Production is down because everyone feels beat down by a company once trusted prior to Tipsord.

Funny how Tipsord can ignore consultants, make decisions that loses money for the company, and still takes home his millions! Millions he does not need to reside in Bloomington, Illinois. Why doesn’t Tipsord take a pay cut to save the company $$$?

There needs to be change to grow within the industry but floundering and jumping all over the spectrum is not effective change.

Just remember, they can't force you to resign. While it would likely become 'termination for cause,' it's an important distinction if you need to apply for unemployment.

Can post through JOP but what’s the likelihood of getting an interview much less a new job if they purposely moved you into a “business need position”? They can say all they want about no time commitment and still stop you from getting a new job through the JOP.

I am a remote worker let go in the last round. I make more money than the managers in the office I work from... so not really sure how this would work.

As another poster mentioned, I just want my severance. Don't get cute, State Farm.

Will they be able to post for another job right away or will they get moved and then told they have a 12-18 month commitment?

RA’s have been moved to PA roles. It’s happening. Salary and RA is kept although doing a PA job. That may change too.

Majority of HR needs fired. Are they looking at those jobs being eliminated or “reassigned”?

Isn't bank collections a paraprofessional role? I knew someone that was BRC collections rep and he was a PA level. I wonder if the folks being moved over are RA1 level. you'd think they'd not put someone from professional level to paraprofessional role if they didn't have to. Especially not RA2+ levels. Going to claims representative is at least still professional technical.

I know it was said that they keep job grade and salary but come on. In some cases you'll be on the chopping block to get fired with every little mistake you make. They really going to pay a former analyst $72k a year to be in a role that has a top pay of $51k (pa3 collections rep)? I suspect that whichever department gets put on the hook to pay that salary will look at any excuse they can have to part ways. Better show up early every day because you are a minute late to the factory one too many times and they fire you. Now be an employee getting paid 50% more than top salary and try that... Won't end well.

/I swear to God, if they try to take away my severance package by offering me a headset position, I will FIND WAYS to send our customers to our competitors./

Well THAT is a interesting wrinkle.

Has anyone heard of these offers being extended to people who already had a QTD and severance package lined up?

Well, this explains all the talk we heard during the HR sessions about receiving a "comparable work offer."

I swear to God, if they try to take away my severance package by offering me a headset position, I will FIND WAYS to send our customers to our competitors.

/It's better than not being given a choice between the cubicle w/ headset or the parking lot./

The parking lot would be a more merciful outcome for some. They showed me the parking lot, and I'm okay with it. But if they had told me I could handle claims at my same salary for another year, God only knows how much further I would have acquiesced to having all my marketability as a Systems employee obliterated.

Sometimes it's better to put the dumb animal out of its misery. And yes, I'm the dumb animal in this scenario.

Very sad because if you live in Bloomington there isn’t many work options outside of State Farm Insurance. Therefore, workers are being forced into a headset and not happy about it. Claims has turned into a production line where it’s quantity over quality while rates increase and customers eventually leave. Not all claims personnel know how to work or service a claim. They are a voice on a headset. The new State Farm Insurance way.

"Re-assignments and Temporary Work Assignments (TWA)" have been occurring for the past two years. Take it or leave it, The moment you're notified, you have to accept or resign on the spot. This is old news for some but now it is systemic in the enterprise.

Be happy, they say. It's better than not being given a choice between the cubicle w/ headset or the parking lot.

There are no parameters. Management says it’s random selection (yeah right). Management blames it on streamlining & where the business need is. So far we get to keep our salary & job grade. Our job title, responsibilities, and hours are different.

Like, are they taking Systems Analysts making 100K a year and putting them on the phone handling claims? That would make no sense. There has to be some parameters within which this is happening.....

Yes. It’s not just Analysts. At least not on the banking side. My significant other was in Agent Banking. My significant other was told the day before they were moved that they were being moved to bank collections and would be collecting on customer debts. If my significant other still wanted a job with State Farm that is. Otherwise, a resignation would be accepted. My significant other said their are Bank Analysts in the collections training class and that the Analysts were told there were Insurance Analysts that were moved to claims without notice too. That occurred in Tempe, AZ. It is a bunch of bull!! Once the Human Resource Restructure Study is complete I am confident there will be more movement like this. Nobody has a choice anymore.

I mean, how the hell can you take an analyst and turn them into a claims rep?

It doesn't seem legit, but honestly who knows....
