Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

District Merchant / Regional Merchandising Directors

So seriously, it seems the only groups untouched by layoffs are DMs and RMDs. What gives? All these folks give direction now to who? No one left in stores!

But this is what happens when the people who are making decisions are so far removed from the stores that they do not understand the impact that the continuing cuts have on service and moral. So sad to watch! I retired as a VPSM several years ago thinking that it couldn't get any worse but every year it continues. I definitely agree that it is time for the DM's to exit. Unfortunately ,the value-add is not justified. I love Macys and wish the company the best but they need to get real about what they expect in the stores and commit. Maybe they aren't as profitable as they used to be but they are clearly the face of the company.

I wonder if that is why they are placing OPS in every store and combining them with AP.

They roll the program out, see how things go and then the Fall Cuts before holiday they severance out the DM's.

There is a reason that every store is now going to have an Operations Manager there full time. By doing that the company cuts out AP Managers and DM's.....so basically this newly created position could be doing the job of 3 people by mid year.

We do not need a DM for every department. store managers, sales managers and ops mgs are capable reading the directive and creating a floor plan. *the floor plan we always have to change when we get it from the DM anyway.

The store mgr us capable if pulling numbers and driving sales without the daily email from the DM.

We need District VP, 1 district merchant and 1 district ops. They download to the store mgr, mtm and ops and the download to the store.

No more 20 redundant emails.

For the next couple of weeks the district team's are going to be working on new floor plans for stores. We barely can get our jobs done as is. I hope the floor moves are meaningful and productive to our stores total business. Most of time they don't generate enough to justify. They also take away from Magic in our buildings and Confuse the customer's.

The lack of information as to why me and not others is frustrating. Under the OWBPA (Older Workers Benefits Protections Act) those of 40 I think have different entitlements. 1 is that the 7 day waiver is not applicable; 21 is the entitlement and places where group (more than 2) over 40 are affected I think we get 45 days. Also it is my understanding we are due explanation of the process.

Just wait. Sure they will be apart of fall eliminations which come in August before 3rd quarter.

Yeah, totally surprised there were not more cuts in this layer. It’s only a matter of time, though.

Big Ticket DMs were eliminated.

Well, let's be honest.... we could do our jobs without them. We can come up with our own floor plans based on Execution Guides. We know how to calculate sales per square foot, we can read the emails regarding company direction. Plus, we know our stores customer base better than they do.
