Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Newest stores-both formats

As SHLD has been closing waves of stores recently, I was just curious as to the last brand new full-line store that was opened for each format. I know a new Sears (3-level, even) opened when Mall of America opened in 1992. Have there been others since then??

Eastland Center, September 2003, Harper woods MIch. Store had been a JCP. This is one of the oldest malls in the country (opened in 1957 I think).

Sears closed is 2012, since then Macy’s has also closed there and target is closing in two weeks.

Mall borders one of the worst (for violence) neighborhoods in Detroit on one side and one of the wealthiest communities in the country on the other. A dangerous combination.

Southpoint, Durham, NC. Opened in 2002. Same with Triangle Town Center in Raleigh, NC. Every time I step into either one, it reminds me of when they just opened, back when I was in middle school.

@RlENCMs Sears was an original anchor in RiverTown Crossings, which opened in 1999 (two-level; the mall itself is also two levels) and is now the only Sears Holdings store of any kind left in the Grand Rapids area (the 1968-built Woodland Mall store closed last year and is in the process of being replaced with Von Maur and likely some other inline tenants; the last two Kmarts in Grand Rapids closed in late 2016 in the same round of closings)

Kmart in Somers Point New Jersey opened in mid-late 2002. Work briefly halted during then Kmart Corp.'s recent chapter 11 banckruptcy protection, and had to be given approval in the proceedings to finish.

Another 2002 store that I can't recall the location of was similar in that regard.

Around here, we had a 2-level Sears that was built in 2000, and it was the first to close, along with the next newest one. The old, decrepit stores in dead malls remain open.
