Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Job cuts

At my current store there are 4 ASM positions. Being told that they will be eliminating 2 of those. HI and BC will combine and OPs will be gone.

Backroom will also be eliminated in my store.

These changes are insane.

Since upper management, store manager and above thinks this

“ Simple Store” is just the best idea

Why don’t they practice what they preach and work on the floor and show us how it is done?? Because it’s easier to move monopoly pieces around at HE on a piece of paper than to actually do the job!

Micromanaging at its finest!!

full timers should not have to take a pay cut so these higher-ups can get a bonus and what part timer would want the responsibility of being a key carrier for possibly 50 cents an hour more??

This concept will not work and these bean counters know it!

Simple store actually works if you had the hours to give people to work. Most retailers have a version of this and have had a version of this for years. Just imagine if you eliminated all the supervisor roles and made them coordinators. This is essentualy taking a full time person with benefits and making them hourly. Or if you took two or three backroom people and combined that role into one person. Once again, you save money.

Fine Jewlery is another example. They are going to eliminate the fine jewlery full timer person and go with one person per shift who is part time to cover the jewlery because they know that jewlery is not something that needs to have a person at it at all times. Same with footware.

Simple store eliminates any leads/supervisors and uses hourly employees to fill that role. The new leads or coordinators will make a little more per hour (maybe .50 to a dollar over minumum wage) but without benefits. The managers will be cut and regular employees will be given key carrier status with a little more money.

This concept would work if they would give the people the hours to work, Say 20 to 30 per week. but as of now when the simple store concepts cuts come they only give 10-20 hours per week for most people.

Currently at my sears store we have

1 Asm

1 softline lead

1 Hardline lead

1 jewelry lead

Our mcas merged with cashiers last year

Original mcas still have to push freight PLUS assist cashiering, straighten the floor etc etc etc, however can’t get the cashiers to even clean and straighten around cac and they aren’t required to help push freight-why if we are a

“merged” team

Store is messy because closing shift doesn’t clean store and leaves it for morning mca to do!! One person 2 floors is impossible

One touch is a failure with everyone expected to be on the register- whomevers idea this was surely has NEVER worked in a store doing those duties and THAT person should be immediately terminated as it is impossible to “engage or members 🙄 as they shop their way”- what way is that Eddie?

Very interested in learning about the “Simple Store” concept

The messed up clothes, piled up fitting rooms, piled up cacs just don’t get cleaned up in their own, it’s tedious folding sizing buttoning zipping belting repackaging

Every single employee should call off on April fools day and let the store manager and DM handle it

I think it all depends in your store volume and sales. In my store when we had our cuts in July we lost our FW lead and Softlines lead. They weren't offered coordinator or nothing the position was just eliminated on the spot. So it will all depends and most on how your sales have been doing. Seems this time they are going to but more anal about positions especially since lots of people saying something about Simple Store.

I am a jewelry lead and I was offered the package or apply for the coordinator position. From what I am hearing each store is different but they are doing away with the separation of softlines and hardline roles. Sales support is one group including old hard and soft.. footwear lead also will have to reapply for the coordinator role. The leads that were softlines will automatically role to the new job title

But what is the difference between the fj lead and fj coordinator position?

No, we did this. It worked well. It’s times like this you realize how little some people do.

Already happened at our store last year one asm hardlines, one asm softlines, one fine jewelry/cac lead, one softlines lead, one backroom lead, ops manger and cac lead position was eliminated. Also cashiers and mcas were combined. This is what you can expect.

Are they merging the backroom and softlines teams? Do you have separate cashiers and Mcas, or just one softlines team?
