Thread regarding Sears layoffs

To all the decision makers

When you have a gm meeting that everyone knows positions are being eliminated don't wait three days after to get your packages together and to let the associates know. How about you have the f---ing packages ready for a half day gm meeting and then the gm goes back to the store and presents the options and packages to his team instead of putting people through hell for three days this is f---ing stressful!. This company has no consideration for its associates! Disgusting!

I agree. It's been the longest and most stressful week waiting to hear the news. No considerations of employees at all, although not surprising since there is no consideration or appreciation on a day to day basis to begin with

@1nsp- Walmart likes to hire older workers, so does Costco and Target as well as many others. They understand that you are reliable, courteous and have a good work ethic. There are many businesses who look for older workers who are looking to work part time or even full time without benefits. Keep looking the jobs are out there and they pay more than Sears/Kmart and less stress.

You could even try state and local governement jobs. They are always looking for seasonal employees in parks, pools, libraries etc. and when the season ends and the like you they will find you something else to do.

@1zbx- The meetings are done on Fridays so that they get buried in the news cycle. People either miss the news or they forget by Monday when the stock market opens. The commission increase will only be for those stores where they are going to seperate the mattress and appliance business into a smaller space within the store or they will rent a smaller space within the mall. Most Sears will be shut down and only mattress and appliance small stores will survive, if at all. The commission increase is not for everyone only a select few

There is no such thing as company loyalty in this day and age. The only loyalty you should have is towards your people and network. This will keep you employed as you get laid off.

Also, if you keep your skills updated, tech and soft- you should eventually land another job. If you’ve been at Sears or Kmart for a long time but have done nothing for your self-development, then yes, you will become permanently unemployed with the lay-off. Worse, you won’t get your full pension from SHC.

In a nutshell, if you have allowed yourself to age in every sense of the world - your appearance, attitude and job skills - then good bye employment! Good luck!

@ssg in our district the DM told managers to have all people in on Friday because they needed a few day to get packages together. Those packages are suppose to go to the store managers today. I was told positions would be lost.

Who decided to do the store meetings on Friday and why does everyone assume it means there are cut positions. I really have heard the increased commission for HA associates is true in passing from someone in corporate......have no idea if it is just for a small subset of stores or all remaining Sears stores.

@1nsp, Please hang in there and don't give up. I had 43 years with the company when I left. I was making good money and found a job making more, great benefits, no stress AND overtime if I want it. There are good company's out here that are willing to hire good, experienced workers no matter your age. Don't get discouraged and keep trying!

@akj I am not ozt but you must be a very young person. I personally have been sending out resumes and I get the interviews which go well but not the job and I know it is because of my age, I'm one year away from retiring. Nobody wants to hire an older worker,it's just fact! Quit talking down to people like they are stupid. Not everybody can just leave and get a job that quickly.

@1ini Eddie is a terrible boss, but Sears was being run into the ground even before he showed up, so FWIW you probably wouldn't have even been able to start working at Sears a decade ago if he hadn't been keeping it afloat this long for what's probably the slowest-motion liquidation in history.

I’ve been s loyal employee for 11.5 years and it is disheartening to say the least!

Karma will see fast Eddie out!

I have been a loyal employee for 10 plus years. This is my reward. I'm truly disappointed.

Did you really expect anything more? If you thought this company would treat you with dignity and appreciation for all you have done you havent been paying attention
