Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Happened at Walmart today.

Performance based layoffs???

The company appears to have decided to do a pile of cutbacks and are claiming "performance" as the reason, not for any restructuring or realignments, HR said the federal WARN act doesn't apply. The were quick to point out they were still giving 1 additional month as a full associate, and if you sign an agreement (who knows what will actually be in it, probably signing away your right to sue for age discrimination and to not say anything negative about the company), they will give you a few thousand dollars.

Why would the go the cheap route and attempt to bypass the federal WARN act? They are playing with fire and a class action lawsuit. I doubt I am the only person who was told this today, and no documented performance reasons and I haven't received a bad review ever. Seems very strange

Let’s be real. Your job is always based on performance from PT associates to CEO. If you are scared you could be terminated because of coachings or performance it’s all on you. Amazon is destroying the brick and mortar stores. If you are not performing or taking care of members the company isn’t going to pay your salary anymore.

Walmart is going through CoManager layoffs right now, that's their big thing. And a push into Scan and Go/Self Checkout.

This applies to management only on the Sams side, calibration talks were done behind your back and if you were graded low or have coachings then its a good chance you will be affected by this next wave.

It should have always been done this way. Why should I or any other worker be let go and the skate by do nothing associate get to stay!

If you were laid off for performance reasons you either had multiple coaching's or a bad evaluation. They have done this in the past it makes sense if you have to lay people you always start with the poor performers.
