Thread regarding Sears layoffs

False rumors

I don't know who started the commission increase rumors, but they are totally FALSE.

What's worse, all ASMs are indeed getting cut. This is across the board. Same with Ops. The false rumors may be believable for awhile, but come Feb. it will all be over. Those remaining will be part-time, hourly, ringing and selling appliances while cleaning the floors and bathrooms.

Eddie screwed us all.

In California we got commission increases were told it had something to do with the tax cuts. Idk, but I’ll take it, it will mean another 7-8k a year for me.

@fhe- it is not that it happens at one store and not another. The plan has been rolling out over the past two years. They started with the smaller stores and the Kmart side and now it is rolling to the Sears side and all Kmarts. Everything that has been said about cutting leads, cutting full timers, cutting ASM, AP, Jewlery, commissions etc. is true, it is just that the process has not hit your store. It has nothing to do with if your store makes money, if your sales are over a certain amount. Every Sears and Kmart will have this process, Simple Store, implemented

These changes will take place at your store it is just a mater of when it will happen not if it will happen.

Or to say it another way, it is not if but when.

What I have learned from reading this thread & many others over the past year is that the structure of the Sears stores vary widely. Arguing about it doesn't make something more or less true for a particular store.

There is almost no rhyme or reason either. My store is stocked with leads and managers and IMO we don't do very well. Always down from the previous year in sales but we were early on the digital journey and some other things.

The only time something is true everywhere is when the company eliminates a position entirely such as market trainer.

According to a post in another thread, some stores are increasing appliance commissions because they're changing the whole structure of the appliance sales process - there will be a commission split between the main sales rep and another employee dedicated to selling protection agreements and such. I think the post said this is happening at the top 200 stores for appliance sales, and at least some of those stores are also moving their appliance department to be near the mall entrance instead of an outside entrance. So that explains why both sides keep saying the other doesn't know what they're talking about regarding commissions - the news was only announced at the stores it's happening at, and it's not happening at many other stores.

Our store already lost the ops manager last year we just have hardline asm who takes care of Hi, mattresses, lawn and garden and the little bit of electronic which is slowly going away. We also have a softlines asm who does the rest and one fine jewelry and one softlines lead. So if the rumors are true about the cuts our store is going to go downhill really fast. The part timers don't care at all now so it will be worse. If they aren't told what to do they stand around literally. So if our store is doing ok right now, after these changes in 3 to 6 months it won't be like that. But maybe that was the plan all along to set up the stores to fail.

The Sears company' direction is to have one Hardlines ASM cover both BC and HI. This has been gradually been implemented for a while.

SOME ASMs will be given the opportunity to take a drastic pay cut and become "Zone Supervisors". This means you will work part-time, multitasking the duties of cashier, appliance sales, and cleaning feces off the bathroom floors. There will be no outside housekeeping. these aren't rumors but facts. A good friend of mine works up the ladder and told me basically everything.

I heard there will be some supervisor instead of asm. Is this for all stores? Are they giving packages?
