Majority of Americans fear the Amazon effect

I was wondering, what happens if all of them actually decide to do something and stop shopping at Amazon - or anything related to it, like us?

A recent poll found that 64% of Americans fear that the tech behemoth will force out other businesses in the retail industry due to its continuously growing market share.

Jobs that don't require much skill will always be threatened by automation. Jobs such as gas attendant, cashiers will all go the way of the elevator operator. Our current monopoly laws protect larger companies from completely eating each other and small businesses that have a niche market or those in convenient locations will do fine. I live in a rural area and there are 5 different supermarket chains within a 15 minute drive along with 3 small hardware stores, one home depot, and several convenience stores and gas stations. The only business model that seems to be almost entirely gone are family owned pharmacies.

Eventually the automated shopping experience will become the norm. Twenty five years ago people were concerned over ATM cards. Fifteen years ago my relatives thought I was crazy to do online banking and shopping. I remember in the early 80s some people were still afraid to get a microwave because they heard the word "radiation".
