Why would a developing country blow money on over-priced and obsolete-out-of-the-box SPARC servers when they can run Linux on Intel, have a choice of hardware vendors, and not get locked-down by an over-priced, proprietary vendor with questionable business practices?

Why don't you tell us who you are, so we can verify your claims.

We are an Oracle Partner marketing to developing nations (what you would call a "third world country"). These developing nations are coming of age, new businesses are constantly being formed.
We recently purchased 100 Sparc servers, M8, M7, and T8 - FROM ORACLE - and have resold all of them and got 94 installed so far at our customer sites. We have placed an order for another 100 - FROM ORACLE.
There is life (and business, and money) outside of the US. Our business, and partner relationship with Oracle, will continue to grow.
Oracle is using Fujitsu to provide and SPARC platforms beyond M8. What is so hard to understand?

It takes 3-5 years from the start of a CPU design until the boxes ship to customers. Oracle waited until M8 was ready to ship to kill off the SPARC org and end development of their next gen. So they’ll sell M8 as long as customers buy it, then sell Fujitsu boxes as long as customers buy them. It’s not that complicated of a road map.

Which cloud is that? The only references one can find about the Oracle SPARC cloud are from Oracle. Nobody else seems to know it exists, let alone care.
Here's how relevant Oracle and SPARC really are: Oracle wasn't even notified about the SPECTRE vulnerability back in June 2017. They first learned about it from the media.
Oracle SPARC roadmap goes out to 2021. Who knows what will happen beyond that. Maybe Sparc will only be available in the cloud. In any event, Sparc is still alive and well...at least for for another 4-5 years.
No, Sparc servers are available for purchase from Oracle and are used in the cloud. Just b/c you were laid off doesn’t change the fact.

Lots of products that aren’t actively being developed anymore are for sale for a while. Means nothing. Doubt that any machine will be sold to a new customer going forward.
That doesn’t mean that the machines are bad. Lots of good products get discontinued every day.

@RqmkSXA-1in Why would Oracle cut x86 systems development but continue development of ARM systems? This would only seem to make sense if there was a business case for getting x86 systems for their cloud from a third party.
x86 is going to be cut. ZFSSA and eng. systems are about to be cut. R&D is working on ARM systems for the cloud.
Troll post. What x86 servers do you think are running in OCI and OCI Classic. Oracle may eventually be the largest purchaser of Oracle x86. There’s still a customer base buying x86. If you look at where the cuts were, x86 was not as impacted as the rest of systems.
@RqmkSXA-liy, how is the question flawed? Are you saying there are no jobs at Oracle tied to producing, selling, supporting our x86 hardware? Do these machines just magically appear out of nowhere and then sell and support themselves?
ZFS appliance used x86. We might kill our server base as no one wants Solaris, SPARC or otherwise.
And we don't make , just consume x86. If we stop consuming it in our servers which no one is buying, then who cares of x86 is discontinued or not ? The question is flawed, lacking a logical sense.
