Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

No more EISP??

Thought for sure that Verizon would have used this tax cut to get rid of the masses and offer an EISP in order to cut the union numbers before the next contract.

We have no work or ot in construction in NJ either. Bosses are scrambling to find something to justify our time. They could easily get rid of half of us and still would be hard pressed to find work. Hasn’t been like this ever before.

I don't think it's possible to predict EISPs. Last year one department got two EISPs within a a 3 month period. The first was the smaller one, $10k plus $2200 per year of service capped at 30 years. The second offer was the special one, $50,000 plus $2200 per year capped at 40 years.

I don’t think we’ll see an eisp in March...if we see one, it’ll probably be in October. Maybe another one before the end of the contract in 2019.

It's not just the pay its the benefits that would go along with a 4 year one time payout and a pat on the head that has to be considered also.

Impossible to guess what could happen. Take 3 billion of that tax windfall and give 9000 or 10,000 techs four years of pay, a lump sum for the pension and an EISP and the company would do very well. Save a few heads that would get a RIF, the company will be paying that money to these guys for the next four years anyway. Move 'em out now and be ahead.

As to the forced overtime. Don't know that I would consider that a reason to not have an EISP/ISP offered. Anyone that leaves would likely be techs with 25 plus years and protected. The company would quickly go to contractors for the work...which they can do.

As for a strike...don't count on it. The union learned last time that calling an economic strike was not a good idea. Union members got real, real close to a lockout. A lockout on a economic strike and the company is not obligated to bring anyone back.

The smooth move for management would be to give anyone 60 years or older four or five years of pay, a lump sum and a pat on the back as they went out the door. The company would win all the way around. Off the books now for the same price of keeping them up to, during and after the next contract negotiations. The fewer senior, protected union members on the payroll come contract time the better it is for the company.

Its going to be small and regional, if at all. We are swamped, forced OT every week you have to at least give 'em eight hours each week or you're coming in saturday. I have talked to guys in 3 surrounding garages and they're overwhelmed, too. Techs are at a minimum, at least until 5G comes, then it will slow down, sans the groups we serve like the landlines forever crowd, who will be the end of our customers but that may last another 7-10 years.

3/18/18 is the likely date of the offer, if not then 4th quarter. They are only going to offer once a year. We have so much work that it will only be a offered to lucky few.
