Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

No One is Safe

Culture shift at Walmart. Sam is rolling in his grave at what is happening. Not over tough decisions, trimming fat....over the shift in cut throat culture that is evolving. Assistant Managers will soon go through a competency review and what just happened to Co's will happen to them. Any young, ready to scorch the earth at any expense will rise to the top and the 'seasoned' family oriented will be pushed aside with no severance or paid leave. After that, supports will be be eliminated. Trimming top heavy management is smart business. Losing a company's culture that has made them successful AND attractive is suicidal. Competitors will have a field day recruiting long term, seasoned, informed supervisors and managers in the near future. Nice Job selling weapons to the enemy Walmart. Once I thought working for such a great company would secure my future to retirement. I'm 15 years in, productivity still as high as the youngin's so to speak (yet work ethic among some is another whole post), my knowledge and productivity makes me worth a lot. Now, you're going to give min wages of $11 hr which too me years to earn and throw a little under a grand at me and expect to to feel worthy? All you did was bring in new hires closer to my wage and tell me I am no longer as valuable. It is obvious how all the "older" co's got the boot and the young got placed shouts, the young is where we need to invest. Ha...good luck building your future on the tide pod eating generation...okay a bit dramatic yet really? This raise made me feel less important and loyal. Watching Co's that were long term backbones of our store get the boot makes me question loyalty...is it a one way street? I think it is time to look elsewhere. Walmart is not the company it was when I started and I might as well look for a company that will be loyal to me in return.

Wal-Mart has only so much control over the wages. They're being forced to raise them to 12 by the end of 2020. They might as well start raising them now to see the impact it has on the pocket book. Will it put a dent in the wallet? Of course not... They're controlling that by firing anyone making salary with bonuses. The other problem Wal-mart has is shareholders. They are too busy catering to the wants and needs of those few with the majority holdings of the company, besides worrying about actually running a business.

Managers that have long term did it to move up. They were once hourly you have to be in position a certain time. People shouldn't be rude co are people and i hope you never have to go home amd tell your family that your career is over because you stayed a associate to long.

If you're still working a retail job after 15 years, it's time to re-evaluate your life choices. Aim higher.

"Competitors will have a field day recruiting long term, seasoned, informed supervisors and managers in the near future."

mmm hmmm.

How many calls or emails have you or other "long term, seasoned, informed" co-workers received from recruiters wanting to talk to you? If the answer is "few" or "none" don't expect that to change just because you're no longer employed.

Yes Walmart is going in a bad direction . It's horrible we lost our store manger now we will lose two co managers !

Yeah none of this is metion in the news just wage increases and 1000 bonus not every employee gonna get ! Yes Sam Walton is rolling over in his grave ! The way they are treating there workers it's sad! Not only are they doing this they are putting in 8 self check outs in some stores right now and only having 8 registers phasing out the CSS position! Wow! This makes me sad and angry!

This is why Sam is not turning over in his grave, poor attitude who think you do it all in the store. The new associates have better attitudes and usually don’t fight change, Walmart will be better off, see ya!!

He didn't mind jacking millions of Americans by sourcing cheap craaap from China but you think he would be upset about employees competing for their jobs?
