Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Amazes me...

I see people saying stuff like "The economy is doing great!" while they watch thousands get laid off and many more thousands at other companies in ALL industries.

That there is a special kinda stupid.

Ignore the lying fake news media and ask yourself why so many companies are laying people off, if the economy is so great. Boy, brainwashed doesn't even come close.

Wages are up....Barely. Inflation is also up negating the wage increase.

There is low unemployment. There is massive underemployment.

Stock market is at an all time high. Stock market is ready for a major correction which could happen any day now, or in a year or more, No one knows when but we know its coming. Working class families cannot afford to lose half their savings, so they have not benefitted from the stock market rise the way the wealthy has.

Interest rates on savings accounts and cds that many working families use has a pathetically low rate.

The economy is tough for working class families and many middle class families.

The economy is getting better, but it’s corporations that are heaping all the benefits. The US lay-offs make them richer as they automate and automate and send jobs overseas. Highly doubt Trump’s tax reform will work in the long run. Can’t stop the natural course of technology and capitalism. If the root of capitalism is profit, why wouldn’t corporations do what they need to maximize this?

As for Sears, it’s been tanking forever. The economy will not save it. Bad management, complacency and a hedge fund CEO who never understood retail didn’t help.

Sears has posted significant losses since 1993, and Kmart even earlier than that, notably executing ins first major round of closings in 1994, and major list again on 2002 during mutiple bankruptcy proceedings. Current events are a drop in the water.

OP-- you must be at HE where problem, every downturn in customers, every loss is someone elses fault. The reason SHC is doing horrible is years of mismanagment, not investing in store or employees and executive bloat. My stocks are doing great.

As everyone is saying "Retail" may be doing bad in certain areas and looking at the recent posts on this site, some computer jobs but there are other industries. The computer jobs seem to be an issue of hiring non-citizens for less.

Are you kidding? The unemployment rate hasn’t been this low in decades. There have been layoffs, sure. Mostly in retail. Where and how people spend their money is rapidly changing.

If you think Sears is suffering because the economy is bad, you need to pull your head out. Sears is suffering because it has been horribly mismanaged for YEARS. Brick and mortar stores that don’t make it a point to provide great customer service are bound to fail.

It's true, the economy is better....in certain parts and sectors. But in terms for retail, no, it isn't getting better. And since Sears is at the bottom of the pile, nothing can help this company.

This thing was doomed through the last three business cycles. Had nothing to do with the economy and everything to do with massive debt and a corporate culture of red tape and inbred nepotism.

Wages are up, unemployment is at the lowest level in decades, housing is rising, stock market is at all time highs, government tax cuts. What economy are you talking about?

No, the economy is doing great, it's the company you work for that is doing horrible.

It's not fake news,Donald Trump is making America Great Again. Don't worry about the layoffs, lots of deals being made. The great Tax Bill, wages will increase, our poor lives will get better, and maybe a bonus from Sears will finally come.
