Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Inside source that sits on the Board of Macys

The company is restructuring. Stores that are leased most in Simon Malls when the term of the lease expires Macys will not renew. If you work in a store that Macys ownes the building, depending on store revenue , they will sell their asset if it is not profitable to them. It's all about the main shareholders that are very upset that their shares are down. They are the decision makers not Jeff Gennette , He is just a Macys puppet. Retail brick and mortor stores have no future. If you are a 15 plus year employee over the age 60 just hang in there. If you are between the ages of 20 to 45 give your 2 week notice immmediately! Retail has no future an every office job will pay more with greater benefits and less hours. You are young and will get hired with no problem. All others are in the worst predicament, since it is hard to get hired after 45.

The truth but sad. Whatever your decision is good luck. Macys has the hardest and most dedicated employees that I have ever seen. Too bad the company does not value them! Find a company that you are valued and acknowledged . You are worth it.

God Bless you all 🙏

People getting severance for this week or the next few weeks, if you don’t finish working out the notice period you will not get your severance. You also can’t slide through and not do your job while you are working your last few days or weeks. That will cause you to lose it too.

"So, if our lease expires in 2029 I'd better be making plans now? And yes that's a true date.

And why would you give a two week notice if you don't already have a job to go to? Really? Unless working conditions are completely unbearable, you get something else first to go to."

Agree with anon on the above.. Why would you give a notice if you get a severance? Best bet is to make the best of it as you can, look for employment (the market is really good), find something and then quit...

Also, am I the only one skeptical that this poster knows someone on the board of directors, who just openly admitted all this?

Look, I'm not optimistic about the future either. But I am not letting it get the best of me. I'm sending out my resume, I'm actively looking. This is my last week here, and I'm not looking forward to Friday. I hope something works out and that I can find gainful employment somewhere else. I'm also don't blame Macy's for this... I think this is a trend brick and mortar stores have been expecting for a long time. I won't burn bridges... Be smart about your career, you're the only one that can make it work.

Good Luck to you all.

Very true. It is out of the CEO's hands. The only way to bring the stock price up is to improve profits and since sales are going down, employees have to go. It's a sad way of life when the stupid stockholders pretty much run our lives. They expect companies to NEVER have a down year, which is ridiculous.

Yes it's happening right now employees are hoping they get a position were told things will open up for the new fiscal year .... I don't think so sad. Almost every cosmetic counter has only 1 employee as per cuts .... They want magical service lol ,ain't going to happen .. How about if I have a customer at my counter doing a facial or makeup who do I help ..... That's why as you can see Sephora has all the customers Macy's lost them too them now the other customers is there gravy bye bye Macy's close your doors can't believe this is happening CEO open your eyes !!!! Smell the roses!!! This big great company is vanishing these were the things the CeO should of seen ... Yes Internet has something to do w it. But getting a makeover, or fascial is a experience that's why SEPHORA is packed. U SNOZZE you LOOSE...... Very sad. 😣☹️😖

also, there are malls that have negotiated with the company not to close the store, and paid macy;s to stay to cover expenses. that is why we did not hear about more closings.

Thank you and def true. In north jersey massive layoffs 50 plus people in one store. But in the future with out a doubt retail will be less. You just need to stop and think....at our mall jcpenny after 60 years....yes 60 years just said they will close by March. It is happening and will continue. If you have to question it......it is probably true.
