Thread regarding Sears layoffs

I am just curious how fitness equipment is selling this year.

January used to be a real big month in fitness and recreation until a few years ago. We used to make better money during January than we did in Christmas season. Fitness equipment and game tables used to really move. Having left the company this summer, I am just wondering if anyone is making any money. Everytime I visit our local store fitness looks ignored by both sales people and customers.

No one wants to buy from a company going out of business. Who will honor the PA's. And Sears has no stock. Everything out of stock or on order or "vendor issues".. Yeah, the issue with the vendors is SHC is not paying them.

Sears DOES sell $1000.00 treadmills. The entry level treadmill made by Nordic Track sells in the $700.00 to $800.00 range and prices go up from there. No they are not gym quality but gym quality starts at about $2500.00. This used to be a great department to work in and it pretty much kept the store's lights on in Jamuary and February when not much else was going on.

@RtQR7dM-yvb This is probably one of the big ones Planet Fitness very damn affordable. Membership is dirt ship with them. It is a better overall investment to buy some equipment however some people like to socialize and get themselfs maybe more motivated in a gym.

Also to add our sporting goods looks like a joke so limited inventory and high prices it doesn't scream "fitness" in my opinion just looks so depressing when I pass by sporting goods.

$300 treadmills are of similar quality to a Yugo. A good treadmill runs well over $1000. But they don't sell those at Sears.

Planet Fitness is $10 a month if you just want to use a treadmill.

Why do you care, you left us? Come back to Sears, and I'll tell you. Sears is on the verge of something Great. Ask Popcorn if you don't believe me.

I've had my share of customers wanting to buy fitness equipment, but they say never mind and leave to go to another store when they find out that the delivery team only delivers the item, they don't do set up. Probably for the better, if the royal screw ups for appliance delivery and installation horror stories are of any indication.

Fitness...just like everything else at Sears does not sell nearly as much as it used to.....I can remember 20 years ago or more, our back home improvement stockroom was full of out of carton returns on treadmills and exercise bikes with repair tags on them....the volume of exercise equipment that Sears used to sell meant a proportionately high amount of returns compared to nowadays...Even nowadays, some of the clientele that buy this equipment probably end up getting bored with it and shove it off to a corner of a room somewhere.

Actually, gym equipment pays for itself depending on what you’re looking to gain. If you just go to the gym for the treadmill which a lot of people seem to do.

Gym costs ~$30 a month depends on where you go. The fees at the beginning are $40-$100. If you buy a $300 treadmill and you it would cost you less to use it for a year than it would cost for a year of a gym membership.

It’s also much more comfortable and less intimidating to workout in your own home versus a gym. People who are aren’t comfortable with their bodies are likely intimidated by the though of working out in front of people.

Dang I don’t even work for sears but I bet I could sell the hell out of some gym equipment.

Not as well as last year but not surprising considering a lot of what’s on the floor is not even available to reserve from vendor.

You have to be fairly stupid to buy home fitness equipment. A gym membership is a much more likely to be a better buy. There you get to use quality equipment instead of crap and you aren't stuck disposing of it if you don't use it.

Surprised to hear it isn't selling to people who shop at Sears.

Hasn't moved much, inventory from three years prior is on the floor, non functioning displays haphazardly in front, and a weider endcap full to the top.
