Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Layoffs after IBM THINK conference

Select layoffs (as in the past to stay under the media notice wire) likely to occur just after IBM THINK conference.

Just wanted to agree with whomever posted this. I highly doubt there will be these huge layoffs mentioned in a few posts, but this here sounds 100% like IBM. Done this before, I see them as doing it again.

Bain is doing something about that thankfully.

In IBM Roma (Italy) a huge cut will arrive around end of February-March.

I understand that over at Watson Health that the vast majority of managers have six or less direct reports and that they have not yet received final assignments and comp plans. Is this a sign of cuts to come?

If they are keeping people from booking travel it is because they will save enough from the layoff and expenses to more than make up for the increase in travel expenses.

This unlikely to happen. My 2 cents. I think things are stabilizing right now, just my gut feeling. Good luck.

I doubt they'd wait until after spending a ton of money training folks at the internal FastStart training in Vegas, and sending a bunch of folks to THINK, getting them all loaded up on IBM's product strategies, and then cut them. It would be a huge waste of money, not to mention IBM is well aware that most of these folks go directly to competitors. I've been told by several managers that it's already planned and imminent. That probably means prior to FastStart (which starts Feb 19). They're not letting anyone book travel yet, and this is probably why. They'll lay off, then allow whomever is left to book travel. Also the latest reorg has left obvious dead weight at the FLM level, the org charts I've seen in sales and tech sales show a lot of first-line managers with less than six reports, which is a sign there will be consolidation there, especially after more sales/tech sales are cut. I guess we'll know soon.
