Thread regarding Sears layoffs

I work at hoffman and am being let go on Wednesday

My boss let me know ahead of time to help me prepare, nice of him seeing as he would get in trouble if found out. stressful but very relieving. He said that’s when all layoffs at hoffman will be announced but some are tomorrow, Good luck all, remember it is a job and other options are out there better than SHC.

That would be cool. You could take your time packing up, maybe a few hours. Use the bathroom a lot, use lots of the soap. Then you get a private escort out. Like a rock star.

If you are not there, they will let you go over the phone and cut off your system access. You will then have to meet someone in the lobby to turn in your laptop. Someone will pack up your desk for you, or if your manager is nice, you will be able to go and pack it up while someone sits with you. That is what I've seen happen anyway.

Yeah. See if they will call you on the phone to let you go of if they make you come in the next day and then let you go. If you come in they probably have to pay you a certain amount of hours just for showing up. Or better yet take two days off.

If you are not there they can't let you go! Congratulations on beating the system!

What happens if I take tomorrow as a sick day or vacation day?

Going to be interesting tomorrow.... Go to the Terrace Cafe , get my morning Starbuck's , go back to my desk and watch this 'reality show gone wrong' .... maybe I will get 'the call' .... at this point it seems best to get out of here now rather than later. If I see security guards tomorrow all over the campus then that's a very bad sign. Good luck to everyone.....anything has to be better than this.

Had a good working relationship with a few folks at HE when I was with Sears. A couple of them warned me to GTFO and I heeded their warning . Had I stayed , I'd been screwed .

Good luck to you and all the others who will be impacted. I didn’t work at HE but was in your shoes a year ago. Honestly the morning it happened I was relieved. The environment that was once a pleasure was horrible. Severance was fair and allowed me to take some time. Few months later with a great company that is night and day better - should have left Sears long before getting cut. Life is so much better after Sears. You will soon see
