Sam said " Our Associates are our greatest asset, take care of them and they will take care of everything else" .... Today that does not sound like it is followed any longer by this company who I worked for for over 30 years in Management and thankfully retired last summer, because it no longer even resembles the shadow of Sams Club... The main problem of what is happening this week is no body really knows the criteria for who was selected to be a "displaced" Club Manager or Assistant. I have spoken to several displaced friends the last two days: One CM displaced today , solid evaluation rating with no "development needed" on the eval, the club is indexing over 100 to their budget in sales, membership and profit, they have lowest shrink in the market, their Associate Survey went up 25 points, the Club Manager has one coaching that expires this week. They took the Club keys today and when the Club Manager asked how they were selected the Market Manager said they did not know and were sent a list by the home office on who needed to go. Another CM displaced today , solid evaluation with zero development needed, their club is indexing in sales, profit, membership all over 100, they have had 14 visits in a row of great visits by the Market Manager, the Regional VP came to the club and was so impressed sent out pictures to all of the clubs in the region, the Club Manager has on first level coaching that was given 9 months ago , today they took the keys and asked them to be an Assistant in a another club?? All of the displaced Managers are given the option to find another job within Walmart by April and will be paid until then and if they don't find one they get some kind of severance package depending on their years of service .... the bottom line , "displaced" is a fancy word for good luck finding a job you really want within the company .... and based on what is happening this week , why would anyone want to do that!

Well said my friend we all determine our in fate in this world.
Several posts on this site aren't worth the pixels they take, but yours seems genuine. I'm one of those who, in the 2008 economic crisis, lost my good paying job of over 30 years. It took almost 4 years for me to find a part time gig with Sam's, now full time for 4 years.
In that time, I've encountered great GM's and horrible GM's, and the same goes for Assistant Managers. As with any job within a big organization, many decisions seem to make no sense whatsoever.
So yes, working with great managers and leaders makes a world of difference. But when that's not the case, all you can do is perform your duties as worthy of the man that started it all, and treat those who work with you the way you wish that your superiors would treat you.
We work for a corporation, not a charity, and that makes it easier to digest many of the hair-brain (they would call them strategic) decisions they make from a defensible distance away from us.
Don't forget: "Your attitude determines your altitude." Let's soar with the eagles...
Why is home office saying who stays and who goes. Sounds like it’s true long term associates are dropping one by one.
