Stepping down as chairman is not a surprise. Wonder if he is cutting a deal with AVGO to be the CEO to keep some control.

No he cannot be. His performance over the years doesn't cut Octanes lowest performance criteria. However, he can keep one G550 as a gift.
PJ doesn't stand a chance to be the chairman. He will prefer to be the CEO again. Octane will give him another chance.
Octane will create another subsidiary called Qukom rest Inc. CEO will be PJ. SM will be SVP for the same. The vision initially will be to create a portfolio of products that will help people to rest.

PJ and SM will fight tooth and nail before going down. The outcome ans what happens to Q will define their legacy and future net worth. It's not the parachute but their unrealized economic gain elsewhere that is at stake here. Once branded as loser these execs at the most end up on boards of unknown unprofitable companies and vanish from the corporate scene. Same story with Jeff Immelt. He will be a complete nobody in 12 months.
