Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Manager texts you on your personal cell phone when you're off the clock, do YOU turn in a time adjustment?

Convenience for both parties doesn't make it right. In my opinion, it is working off the clock, period.

Wasn't there a policy that said managers could not longer text associates?

You know why they don't want you communicating via text? Because you have a record of the conversation then. Phone calls don't leave the same easy to verify info. "Oh, that's not what I said."

So no need for a 4 hr time adjustment if policy is followed. Company is always having to pay for the mistakes of middle management, sometimes very costly .

Your store title is confined to the store walls and ends at the door.

The hourly ends at the clock.

A memo went out a couple of years ago that no salaried member of management should ever be texting an hourly associate for any reason, ever. All communications with hourly associates who are not on the clock should be conducted via club phone.

You can do a time adjustment, or call ethics and get your manager fired. Up to you.

I can see both sides of managers texting associates, it’s one thing to ask a question however, when they call to ask why something wasn’t done different story. “Do not call me on my day off to put me in a mood...cause you had to actually work today!

Good luck to you aholes when you lose your job with Sam’s. When you go to work for another company and start whining about needing to be paid for 4 hours because they dared to text you and ask you to come in or where you put something they need you will get the boot pretty quick. You all think you have it so bad but have no clue how it works in the non-Walmart world. That’s why half the people who quit come begging for their job back. You do have a choice to not open the text by the way.

There are valid points to texting like “ hey can you work today we had a call out “ .. however what it turns into more often than not is , can you work today cause I didn’t write a effective schedule .

The point is it’s your off time . That is the kinda of stuff that starts lawsuits as it doesn’t matter if it’s one minute or ten minutes. The employer is required to pay a associate if they are working .

Personally I would tell the gm about it and get them to fix it, if that doesn’t work go to the regional

Yrs, you can do a time adjustment. The reporting pay policy is on the wire, a text is not covered. Grow up and do your job or someone else will.

Obviously none of posters are leads with managers who don't know how to do their own jobs. Especially since all the managers with tenure and knowledge were displaced. I know of at least two leads in our club who say they are constantly being contacted by their managers all hours of the day and night. How does a fresh manager not know how to order? Why won't they coach someone instead of waiting for a lead to do it on their next scheduled day to work? This is not about the 15 second text message. It is about numerous texts every single day. They definitely don't interrupt a lunch break because they know the associate will get to start their lunch break all over again. Same thing when walking out of the building. But texting? If it doesn't happen to you, look around, you'll be surprised. It should be brought to the forefront. Shouldn't be barked at after returning to work demanding why a cell phone wasn't answered on a day off. We are hourly, not salary. You choose the management lifestyle.

Correct......you can tell which ones of these responses are guilty of violating the policy, because they are unqualified to do the job themselves , to used to riding the coattails of the hourly

wow..and just wow again....all you sheep so willing to accomodate the managers who willinging and knowingly violate company policy !!! You are a BIG part of the problem ! When managers feel like they can skirt policies and you sheep help them do it all you do is open with the gates to the slaughter of hourly sheep ! Most of you do not truly feel getting paged to do work at home is petty but rather are either royal s--- ups or are scared spitless to stand up for yourselves !! Because of you the rest of us have to put up with over stepping managers every day ! Because of you home office is unaware of the depths that abuse in field facilities truly runs ! Of course home office would likely not care anyway. But helping management to abuse us only helps HO to turn a blind eye ! .............Do I answer calls from managers? Nope , my phone does not answer calls from Walmart. You s--- up sheep will think I have a bad attitude. Nope. When I am at work I am a happy little busy bee doing as told with a smile but on my time I am on MY time. I do not steal time from them they should not steal time from me !!!!...................

I don't do an adjustment because I'm not petty. Taking less than a minute to read and respond to a message isn't going to make or break the bank.

You get paid for the time you were on the call. You are thinking of

“Reporting Pay” which has strict

criteria .

And you wonder they have to eliminate positions? Because morons like you demand to get paid 4 hours for a 30 second conversation. Your 30 seconds just made a part time lose a shift. You’re a real class act. Good luck at your next job, the real world doesn’t work that way!

You do a time adjustment for the amount of time you were “working”. 5 minute phone call = 5 minutes of pay. Is it really worth it?

Yes do a time adjustment.....they are on a salary ,you are not ,they are responsible for what goes on there when you are not on the clock.Do not accept or respond to the call without at least a 4 hr time adjustment for invadeing your privacy. You are not slaves

Do you really need to be paid for that 30 seconds? Ever taken a little longer on your break? It all evens out. I’m not trying to be a jerk, but this kind of attitude is what makes us all look like a bunch of idiots.
