Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

You will be surprised what can happen when you have to step out of your comfort zone

Sure the feelings of dread and unsure what the future holds will be over whelming. Take a long fast 40 min walk every day to get rid of the stress chemicals. It will also lift your mood which will allow you to look at things from a different perspective and that is a good thing.

If you have the talent and the ability to appear confident to the point of arrogance in an interview good things will happen. Remember every one gets knocked down in life BUT what you do when you get back up is the most important thing.

All successful people have failed, some miserably, but they figured out what they need to change by how they failed in the past. Google it and see how many failures a lot of well known people have had before they succeeded.

You have to keep reinventing yourself no matter what age you are. The odds may seem at first overwhelming but each day you work towards your main goal they seem to dissipate rather quickly.

Figure out what you would want from someone that was working for you and be that person in some shape or form and good things will eventually happen with enough effort.

Only you can let yourself feel worthless NEVER give someone the power to do that, even persons that lack a moral compass in authority roles.

I separated from the company after a somewhat serious illness. I realized that if I returned I would fall back into a number of bad habits that would be detrimental to my recovery. I felt very guilty about leaving my co-workers because a number of us were close and covered each other as best we could. Seriously. I initially felt that I was letting them down and then I realized that was due to the environment we were in. The job had become hell and the only way to cope was to rely on each other. And I let by buddies down. A veteran I was talking to said that the closest he could come to that was the feeling he had being in Vietnam one day & then home, while his unit was still fighting. Now, I know there is a huge difference between the two, but it got me to realize that there is life after the Farm and what I went through was not my fault, or my TM's fault, it was done to us purposefully by higher-ups in order to get us to quit. And while I probably should have sought out counseling, I have been slowly recovering from the stress induced environment I was in.

I agree with the OP, leave SF & don't look back. Find your passion, hone your skills & thrive.

Good for you OP sometimes we just need that little push to get us restarted and rejuvenated. I hate what is happening and being in my early 50s, a 20+ year employee I am needing that rejuvenation. After my unit was no longer needed and disbanded, i was lucky enough (?) to have been reassigned to a claims role. A role that I worked extremely hard to get out of over 15 years ago. i think that if I had gotten a QTD I would have responded as you have done and been better off. Life is short and the work life balance that SF preached for so many years is non existent. The company is in mass chaos and I know that i need to reevaluate my situation and find that happiness again for me and my family. It is not healthy and I feel for everyone going through the turmoil. I hope that everyone can realize how special you are in so many other aspects of life. Thank you for your post.

Since I was given my QTD, I've spent about 15 hours a day re-skilling. This re-education has helped me focus my job search and has given me a new passion for my profession that I never would have found working at State Farm.

Since CDE, this really has been a miserable place to work. As a guy who will be unemployed in a month, I'm surprised at how happy I am. The future is bright. I work in a city with a ton of jobs and I have friends at lots of local employers. The skills I've cultivated in the last 5 months, combined with the ones I already have, are going to put me over the top.

Best of luck to everyone. And yeah, I agree with the OP.
