Thread regarding Sears layoffs

So here we go again with the (false) rumors. To the individual(s) who like to spread fake rumors to stir the pot, I have this to say.

Whoever you all are...why is it that you feel that you have to instill fear and worry into everyone? Do you like drama? Or do you get a kick out of seeing people worried and afraid? There is already too much of that going on with this company.

Do you even work for Sears Holdings in any capacity? Or are you a "short" as far as the investor lingo goes? Are you a unemployed millenial living in your parent's basement with nothing better to do than to troll random sites with nonsense?

Please don't post false, made up stories. Likewise, please don't post what you "think" will happen without disclosing that it's just your speculation. Over 2000 people visited the post about something "big" happening today on March 2. Well, it came and went, and fortunately no stores were announced for closure and there were no layoffs as far as I know. Judging by the posts in reply to the original, most everyone went along with the potential for bad news hook line and sinker.

Hey, O.P! Here is a quote from Eddie himself in the financials:

"We also recognize that we need to do more if we are to deliver on our commitment to return to profitability in 2018. We will work to build on the progress we made in 2017, including ongoing actions to improve or close unprofitable stores and to unlock the value in our assets. Importantly, to ensure our long-term viability, we must substantially improve our sales and gross margin performance, including adjustments to our business model."

Looks like Eddie is still going to close unprofitable stores, sell more real estate, cut hours and cost and keep doing more of the same. Seems like your DM may have not got the memo.

Just think what having customers would do to the bottom line. I dont care how much merchandise you have. If you dont have customers (which Sears doesnt) then you have no sales.

@6ssh Dollar Store status, would be a step up, for Sears. And, just think what having actual merchandise in stock would do for sales.

@6our If they sell for 2.4 billion they would still be short 2.5-3.5 billion dollars to pay off the debt. Don't think Eddie wants to be on the hook for that amount. Why not file BK and start from zero? He owns the debt and will be paid first.

O.P- if everything is going to be O.K. then what do you care what people post? IF you truly belived that SHC was going to turn things around then you would not be reading these boards. If by all eveidence that you see in your store-- i.e remodels, new equipment, tons of new customers, new hires, raises, good morale from employees, policies that lead to more sales not just busy work--- then you can be hopeful. But if you do not see anything that would lead you to belive that SHC is trying to turn things around or trying to just hang on a little longer, then you must conclude that things are not good.

Just the idea that you took the time to post and chastize those who make predictions (most have been spot on) tells me that you dont really believe that SHC will make it and that they are going belly up. Just because you say it or dont want to believe it doesnt make it true.

No one cares. This site is just a neat place to hang out, while sipping coffee in the mornings and inhaling a jelly-filled donut. Oh, wait a minute, that sounds like a Sears managerial skill set.

Well I for one could care less what is written on here I just come on here every now and then and read for the entertainment of it. If the place closes down so be it, there will be life after Sears and other jobs to be had, why get so upset? If it upsets you that much move on, why stay? Just because I don't care about what is written here doesn't mean I'm useless and have nothing to care about like the last poster said. I have been with this company for many many years and i would like to continue working for at least a few more but if it doesn't happen so be it! I will continue to live and work elsewhere!

For those who don't care don't really have anything to care about. They are useless and nobody's who gain some idiotic thrill in someone else's pain.

Just work, get your check and if your stores closes move on. If not move on now and end the stress. Plenty of jobs out there.

To believe just one post on this site 100% is naive. You need to look at everything in context. This site has got every layoff right with notice of them happening at least a week beforehand. What makes the accurate posts different is that the replies contain specifics, the routines at work change, the accurate posts reflect previous patterns of layoffs, people at work let slip something is coming. I saw this March 2nd post weeks back and knew it was fake because nothing accompanied it. People post fake layoff rumors here to draw people into confirming news they may have heard, it might not be wholly malicious. When hearing rumors here see them as pieces of the puzzle, you are left to fill the other gaps if you want to confirm their validity.

OP not everything here has been legit (like the March 2, 2018 rumor) however , other stuff like the January firing did happen. You can't believe everything you see or read, but this site in the end has given me so much intel and information of whats going on.

@ccp. Honestly there is a site like this for practically every retailer. And you can never fully trust a company or anyone other than yourself. That is just life. It is a bored miserable person that enjoys posting nonsense....,nothing more or less than that.

Perhaps it is a mistake to work for a company that you cannot trust. If you are reduced to looking for information about your future on a site such as this because you cannot believe your own sources....well, that says it all, doesn't it?
