QC organizationally structured as function or matrix or project-ized ?

Unclear if this is another cause of the all the heart aches. Perhaps structure is also another root cause of this situation. No ?

QC is neither functionally or projected organized. It is "cloud" dis-organized. Engineers are not 'assigned' to projects or products; they are 'expected' to self organized around the highest priority; hence all the running around and shouting at all the latest 'hot issue' while other revenue earning, steady but boring projects get starved of so called 'resources'.

The 'expectation' of self organization derives directly from the lack of direction from directors. Directors lack the ability to direct because firstly they are promoted engineers (not managers) and secondly, there is no executive plan for them to direct.

A plan of "go 5G" or "go IoT" is no plan. Its a gut response to the obvious market demand. Q lost it when Jacob the elder thought Jacob the younger could lead. No new ideas. No new products. Dont believe me ? Ok, go google 'Zeroth' processors. 'Mediaflo' Billion dollar pet projects of the silver spooned Jacob.

"Oh lets do SnapDragon virtual reality" : fine idea; but useless for a company that needs new ideas and new technology. Anyone can "do VR".

You will be structured in business units and the GM will have full P&L respinsibility. If you perform your BU will be rewarded but if you bomb then be prepared for the consequences.

Oh and if R&D does not produce revenue in 24 months, i will kill the project and let the team go.

Finally, no titles. You are either an engineer or a secretary with compensation tied to your skills and business unit performance.
