That will always happen when you are way more competent than your manager. Your manager will feel threatened and will need to find any way to get rid of you just to make himself feel better that he is no longer threatened in his current position. He is probably now looking for weaknesses in others so that he can do the same to them. It's a sad cycle but happens when the incompetent are elevated above what they are capable of. P.S. look out for failed projects - a key sign of incompetence at work with the managers blaming the workers, of course for the poor outcomes.
