Thread regarding IBM layoffs

This one sounds real

I'm usually a skeptic but normally close-mouthed people are openly saying a big RA is imminent.

I’ve seen various time frames for notifications, from 2 weeks to 30 days to 90 days...with one month severance. Does anyone know what this next one will be, particularly in US?

I have a hard time believing any of the information given here anymore. Less than 50% of it ever ends up being truthful. There’s layoffs at IBM all the time. Truth be told, it’s a company who lacks ethical leadership and innovation. I’ve got IBM on my resume, which still impressed potential employers, and will use IBM to find work elsewhere.

I did ask to be put on the list. Not sure exactly when the next wave is coming but I guarantee it is happening. Couldn't be happier. My stress level dropped dramatically after talking with my manager. After 20 years, I'm fed up and so glad to be leaving IBM. Getting tired of all the layoffs and seeing a lot of great co-workers get RA'd. I'll miss the people I work with but not IBM.

"I know this has been said before, but I have to believe that they will RA after THINK."

No, it's next week, unless something last minute gets in the way, i.e. legal pushes back for some reason, which has happened before, but not this late in the game I don't think. The managers have the names and the approved scripts to read. The packages are prepared and ready to send out.

"any suggestions on how to accelerate receiving the RA notice?"

Depends on how much you trust your manager. You might let him/her know that you're willing to save someone else's job if it comes down to that. Managers would much more prefer to give this news to a willing person than someone who it will devastate. For example, someone closer to retirement than someone who has little kids. Just open the conversation with "I've been hearing rumors..." From what I hear from managers, it may be too late to affect the RA next week, those names are likely locked and loaded, but it doesn't hurt to try. You might get yourself at the top of the list for the next one.

This RA will be executed next week. Not sure what day yet, probably mid-week, but in any case it will all be done but the crying by next week this time. I already know I'm on the list, and frankly I can't wait.

-jhm - IBM just released a long term forecast to wall street and it does detail a significant reduction in management layers, as well as ongoing reductions in overall head count. In other news, the executive team and board of directors will continue to shower themselves with money despite declining revenue for 22 out of 23 quarters and EPS only held up by share buybacks. It's time for workers to revolt.
