What do you think of the new CEO?

He did an amazing Town Hall today. It was easily the best Chevron ever had. All about people. No graphs and no mention of business performance. Employee hostess. Senior management were microphone runners! Genius. Everyone I know loved it. He handled the layoff questions well.

Please re-read your initial post. Why do you go to work? Why does business performance not matter to you? This is the issue with chevron. The ceo has made a career of asset sales. He had no comments on business performance because there is no performance. Balance sheet and inventory games at quarter end to show “cash flow”. He will sell assets until what’s left is so small the company will be eaten like Gulf, Texaco, etc. In the meantime enjoy your diversity and xyz network. That sh-- matters. Trust me. Stockholders love it. It pays dividends as your paycheck, maybe even your 2% raise and your sub market bonus.

I know for a fact -ftld is right. I got laid off and was given the age and paygrade breakdown sheet with my severance package. Leaving the paygrade demographics aside, it was clear that age was a major consideration in who got let go. To add insult to injury, some of the younger and lesser paid employees on the demographics report miraculously found jobs before their severance date came. Talk about stacking the deck. Chevron did all this in a calculated manner to diminish the preponderance of blatant age discrimination. This was more likely a tactic advised to them by their principal consulting company.

That’s not entirely true @fqhs. Few were laid off because they couldn’t keep up, but most were let go only to save money. Many 50+ year old, productive and higher paid employees were shown the door just to save the company money.

My impression so far of MW is he’s afraid to say what’s really on his mind. Another leader who is hesitant to really lead. My advise to him is what any cook must do to become a chef, “you've got to crack a few eggs to make an omelette.”

Yeah, these 3rd world expats come here to the US and spend 5+ years sponsored by Chevron. They soon enough get down to brass tacks and hire immigration attorneys to work on changing their legal status to US residents, then to American citizens. All the while, spewing anchor babies and getting their parents and siblings over here to sponge off our welfare system and not wanting to assimilate into our way of life. Chevron is an accomplice in changing our American culture and traditions by not sending these foreign expats back to their native countries before their 5 year work contract is up.

There's still a lot of inept managers around that need to be shown the door. Plenty of opportunities to fix the broken expat system too. Lots of expats like MOAP need to be forced back to their home countries, instead of allowing these leeches to have expat assignments that span 8+ years in the US.

You are spot on about the new ceo being one man and the lack of accountability within chevron especially at the management level. The managers scratch each other’s backs to prevent themselves from being ousted. Fgp is on good example especially the lack of accountability at the Korea module yard. The cost overruns and weight control bust are horrible but somehow these individuals survive and retire as multimillionaires while other good accountable employees are shown the door for

M Wirth is only one man. The problems that are inherent in Chevron will rest on his shoulders if he fails to address them head on. Chevron lacks terribly in accountability and leadership abilities. If he would seriously address just those two things, he will turn this company around on a dime. He shouldn’t allow the pressures of Affirmative Action, multiculturalism and political correctness to get in the way of these two principal challenges. Bold steps are taken by bold leaders. I hope MW becomes one.

When I was in CVX everyday come to work and see if I get an email to come and see HR and f--- off. It happened one day in mid 2016. Now I am in another company where everyday I come and see lot of work to do. CVX was the most pathetic company I ever worked for and they laid off all good people and kept idiots who know how to bull sh--.

Wirth will have to prove, through actions not words, that he is not just a continuance of the policies under JW. There is still a significant amount of non-essential and non-productive employee fat in this company. Still too much emphasis on political correctness, multiculturalism and LGBT awareness instead of the basic nuts and bolts of drilling and producing oil and gas.

Looking forward to see what the strategy is, they still seem confused (as is the industry). Supposed future of oil and gas is either shale oil/gas or LNG. Chevron got burned on LNG and is trying to divest Kitimat (though this was already a difficult development) - so apart from any expansion projects guessing LNG is out. Long term LNG for power production may get burned anyway if renewables continue to take off.

If its shale - that's a very different project management structure to what they are used to and they have to be quicker/more cost efficient, though they are lucky in terms of reserves. Apart from FGP - theres no other low cost "megaproject" reserves that i'm aware of. Anything that costs more than $50 a barrel to produce is effectively a stranded asset.

The smaller and other major companies have a MUCH greater injury and fatality record per capita than CVX. I have worked at many. But uneducated disgruntled losers like you would not know that. The proof will be in how he covers over Chevrons fatality record and the employees who are so proud of it and their company. Should be interesting, given the track record of MCP failures over the years. Glad I am not at risk any more, but then again, MY company doesn't do stupid incompetent things that get people killed, let alone brag about their company afterward.
