Severance - unemployment question

This might be a stupid question and I apologize in advance, but I can't seem to be able to find the info anywhere else, so I will brave asking here.

Are people who receive their severance one they are laid off still eligible to receive unemployment or not? I'd be really grateful for an answer.

To get 1 penny of severance from SF, you are required to sign a declaration of voluntary separation, no unemployment.

Thank you all for responses, I guess I have to look up Georgia rules.

I work in this arena for one of the largest employers in McLean County (not State Farm). Illinois unemployment laws are stacked against the employer. Even if you take voluntary severance, there is a good chance you could get unemployment by simply claiming you’d get fired if you hadn’t taken the severance.

Your state of residence will determine what (if any) benefits you will receive. SF will not contest it.

I think if you accept voluntary severance (which no non-leader will get) you cannot get unemployment. With involuntary I would think you can get unemployment.

I failed to mention that I believe it’s for involuntary serverence. That’s my recollection. I think most states have their resources, guidelines, etc. published.

Depending upon what state you’re in, yes. My wife was laid off in Dallas and qualified for UE. The severance payment was not included in the calculation.
