Thread regarding IBM layoffs

To Worry or Not to Worry? -- Band 7 pre-sales, 45 years old, 16 years at IBM.

Should I worry here?

I had a Checkpoint review with my manager, we agreed that my Business Results should be rated as EXCEEDS (the others rated as ACHIEVES) and that's what my manager submitted at the end of the interview.

Then I have seen several changes logged in my 2017 Performance Assessment, those changes have been made by my manager's manager (N+2).

In the final results I now see that my business Results are rated EXPECTS MORE, without any justification.

I'm a band 7 pre-sales, 45 years old, 16 years at IBM.

Should I care about that (besides the fact it's not motivating)? Is there anything I can do to have it back to what was agreed with my direct manager?

The most likely explanation is that you are being set up for termination with cause, which means no severance. Sorry you are having to go through this. You need to look for another job.

OP / @S90ervx - sorry to say it but your name has already been crossed off - I'd start looking ASAP. What they did is disgusting but that's how things work, cannot change nothing there

Yikes! That's tough, grandpa.

Try talking to your direct manager's manager's manager (N + 3) to correct the Performance Assessment. In other words go three levels up in the chain of command to get it fixed—you can find them easily on BluePages. Talking to a manager usually worked for me when I was at IBM.

@smp -- some roles land at 7, nowhere else to go - I know what you are saying but we do not know enough about the OP

If you still have your original review make sure you keep that hard copy… I’d reach out to the manager and ask if editing of the docs after the fact is something that’s acceptable by IBM – make sure you have the response in writing. At that point contact HR. I think you are done here at IBM but if you want to put up a fight that’s what I would do. Frankly, do you really want to work for a company that does corrupt things like this?

a qq: why are you only band 7 in pre-sales after so many years? i'd expect you to be at least a 9 by now - maybe there is a correlation here?
