I have been reading, with some amusement, the mean-spirited debate going on within this site regarding individual’s opinions concerning grammatically correct writing. You young bloods can keep repeating for as long as wish that proper capitalization does not matter, that grammatically correct sentences have become passé, and that legible cursive, or script, is no longer necessary, but I’m not so sure.
When I meet an individual face-to-face, first impressions still hold a great deal of importance for me.
On those occasions when I do not have the pleasure of making one’s aquaintaince so intimately and am only left with their written word as the sole means of introductory communication, and those introductory words are written in the manner of a child, I have already cast you in a negative light.
While I realize this prejudgment, this preconceived notion, may be totally inaccurate, it nonetheless seems to me, if you cannot take the time to make sure your communication is solid, it indicates either a tendency towards laziness or, worse, ignorance; perhaps, even both.
You have to respect me enough as the consumer of your words, and as the person that you’re trying to get a point across to, to give it your best effort.
