Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Transferring to Q in India? Is that an option?

I'm on a H1B visa and fearing I might be impacted. If I can't get a job within 30 days (if I'm notified), I'll have to move back to India, hence thinking about all my options. Moving itself is a lot of work - I'll have to sell my house, look for enrolling my kids to a good school in India etc etc.

I was wondering if I ask for a transfer to Hyd or Blore, will it look too bad? I don't want to take my job from here to India, but transfer to a new opportunity available in India.

Other than a few qualcomm and industry specific tech, I've expertise in Java, Python, Ruby, C, C++, Javascript (Node.js).

Because time is a factor, you may not like the job you will find in the limited time frame. So, my suggestion will be to look for a job in a place like SF, that way, you have future options of switching jobs once you settle down.

Everyone who thinks of a move back will look for a job in Hyde or Blore, regardless of which company they work for, or how storng a professional they are. So what stops you from looking at oppotunities outside your org/division ? Is it that you prefer to stay if you aren't impacted ? If so, you shd be looking at jobs within USA.,

Since you know quite a few languages, you should really consider jobs in other cities, that may be simpler for you and easier for your kids & family. You can rent out your house and move. Getting a job within 3 weeks is very much possible.

I would suggest looking to see what is available in India NOW. That way if you are impacted you have already started the process of transferring to a preferred position, instead of what’s left. If you aren’t impacted, you won’t be too far along in the process that you can’t back out.

U will get two months notice as that's California law plus two more months as per bill signed by Ivan's when he just left office . Just check with qcom lawyer to see what happens if you are laid off

Who doesn't, so why are you even here?
