Thread regarding IBM layoffs

So much for that article

Isn't it sad how some people got so excited about that article that exposed IBM's practices when it comes to older employees? Hoping something would change or come out of it?

It hasn't even been a few proper weeks, and the story has all but disappeared. Nobody mentioning it, nobody calling out IBM out over it, nobody insisting on official investigation or changes...

When will people finally realize that nothing is going to change for better and stop getting false hope that ends up crushing them even more?

You also have to remember that media companies make money selling ads and IBM spent a buttload of money advertising Watson.

It’s because just about everyone at IBM is burned out. Years and years of corporate water boarding, one can only take so much. I know a few folks working still with 25 to 30 years just waiting to walk the plank. IBM is all they know , internal skills.. they put their all into the company...... for what . I wish them the best .

This site (thelayff.com) is ok for employees of various companies to come to and complain, but how much exposures does their message receive outside of this site? I would guess not much. "Watching IBM" on FaceBook is an alternative but you must go through a moderator if you want to remain anonymous otherwise you must use your real name.

Twitter seems to be an ideal platform with broad exposure. Start a #hagtag conversation, tweet and retweet it to the many media outlets, watchdog groups and government agencies that are on twitter.

Unfortunately the practice is not unique to IBM. Many other companies in the IT space, and many of the organizations one would normally expect to perform further investigation into the matter, or to call for some type of government investigation, have the exact same policies in place. To shine a greater light on IBM would end up reflecting right back on themselves.
