Thread regarding Sears layoffs

The lie that Kmart isn't present

Everyone keeps saying, there aren't any Kmart left, I didn't know Kmart still existed, or there aren't any near me. Kmart is present in nearly every single state and nearly every single city, and usually spread out geographically. I'll admit that they aren't in every shopping district and may not be accessible to shop at on a regular basis or even ever, but how can some people claim they didn't even know they still existed? Do these people never leave their neighborhood? Do these people ever see their own state?

I live in a metropolitan area of 350,000+ people in Southern California. The closet Kmart to us is 1 1/2 hours away in a smaller area. The next closest is 3 hours away.

Closest Kmart to me is about half an hour away (used to be 4 within a couple of miles of either home or work). It's a dump. There are 3 Targets, 3 Meijer, a Walmart that I'd never shop at but still, 2 Macys and 2 Kohls that are closer

So tell me, why would I go to Kmart, instead of any of those stores?

@1cua - According to the corporate trolls on this site you should be willing and able to drive 400 miles to visit your nearest Kmart. True, Texas is a huge state, but that is still no excuse. LOL

There are only 2 remaining Kmarts in the entire state of Texas. Which is a freakin' huge state.

Last week there was 12 Kmarts in the whole state of Illinois. This week there

are 9. Only one in the City of Chicago, near where the last Sears left in Chicago was

just announced as closing. We used to have the Sears tower, one of the tallest

buildings in the world at the time, now sold and renamed. Sears HQ is in Hoffman

Estates, suburb of Chicago. Does this sound like a healthy company?

Closest Kmart to me is 5 hours away. So no, my kids have no idea what a Kmart is, and they have never stepped foot into one. Same thing with Sears. If they do not advertise on a national basis then people dont know what a Kmart/Sears is or even if they are still in business. Anyone under 40 hasnt a clue that these stores even exist.

The two metropolitan cities in Kentucky are Louisville and Lexington. There are no Kmart's in either of these cities. The closest Kmart is an hour away and there is only one Sears store between them located in Louisville. The closest Sears to Lexington is an hour away. Kentucky has four Kmart's and five Sears stores left in the whole state. There is no way people are going to drive that far to shop in a rundown store. I can remember when there were seven Kmart's in one city. You have to be really stupid to not see the writing on the wall.

We HAD a Kmart. It closed in 2014, almost exactly four years ago. The next closest one closed in 2014 as well I believe. Another decent one about an hour away closed in 2014 also. There is still a really dumpy one holding on by a thread about an hour away (probably will be in next list of closings). The nicest one that was even remotely near by closed in 2016 or 2017. If the one an hour away closes then the closest one will be about a 3 or 4 hour drive from me and judging by the reviews of those stores they are probably on the chopping block as well. A lot of local people assumed that all Kmarts closed at the same time the one ours did, so they believe Kmart is already out of business. So in my area Kmart is pretty much a defunct entity....

I used to really like the standalone Sears store we had, but that store closed way back in like 1993 or 94 (within a year of the first Walmart opening in the city). There are still two "decent" Sears stores attached to malls within about an hour or hour and a half from my house, but I haven't had a need to go to them for several years.

Well lets see. My Kmart that was 8 minutes away closed 3 years ago. The next Kmart that used to be 1 hour and 20 minutes closed last year. So that leaves me to the next closes Kmart to me is 4 hours. Ya that's close to me.....

Well that may be, but it's disingenuous to pretend that Kmart is in so few places that they didn't know it existed. There is a major propaganda campaign to pretend that Kmart is so weak and small that it doesn't even exist in most places, this is not true.

Not really. They may not go to it, but surely they can still see with their eyes. Kmart is still very much present in most cities and states. Anyone who ventures more than 10 miles out of their neighborhood would see a Kmart in most parts of the United States.
