Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Dell Technology = Excel

The company who claims to be a technology company is run on Excel and PowePoint. For over 15 years colleagues and I have shared in Tell Dell the company’s tools are a joke. If it wasn’t for Excel the company would cease to exist. If it wasn’t for PowerPoint you couldn’t conduct a meeting. Mgmt cherishes a good PowerPoint presentation over internal tools and productivity. Mgmt absolutely prefers spur of the moment spreadsheet, that has errors, over an internal tool. And Dell has the gall to call itself a technology company. LOL

the management is so so childlike stupid. opening an excel and reading is too hard. unable to analyze and have thoughts on summarized numbers. so stupid. you have to do 90% of the work then tell them what to do while they argue with you on really stupid points just because they cannot and do not want to read the summarized numbers, not even close to details. like a baby.

Dell has never been a technology company. all they've been good at is supply chain management for producing and delivering other companies designs. Those supply chain advantages are now gone and they have nothing to fall back on. The company is terminally ill, but it will take years for it to die, and the primary investors will manage to milk every dime they can before it goes under.

Excel is great because anybody can use it. A very high paid manager can open and key in 5 by 10 range and call it a table. Then call it an analysis. An analyst can write a macro to combine 200 thousands lines from two different spreadsheet, clean, pivot, chart and line fit, and call it an analysis. Idiots who can use excel like the manager can will say both are the same level of analysis. I can p--p a bean and say we save $3Mil with this award too in a table and call it an analysis. Give two person a gun one will practice on beer cans one will shoot you in the head and they are both stupid?

it is the only tool we have. The reason why analyst had to use excel, most of the time coupled with sql is because there is no goddamn tool for us to do our analysis. Correction, there is but we are not authorized to use it!

agree to a point. We have a hundred thousand dollar system sitting there for the merry of a small group of less than 10 in Dell. Mind you this too is meant for 140k people and only 10 gets special privilege. What does the rest have? F---ing excel. Figure out with your excel.

You can have the knowledge of nuclear physics, Dell management will still put themselves and their PRs in the nuclear program while you support the program with an excel from outside and not recognized. F--- this place.

Beg to differ. When you have to take data from a spreadsheet to enter to a Dell tool is ridiculous.
